McConnellsburg 3, Shalom Christian Academy 1: The Spartans traveled to face the Shalom Christian Academy Flames on September 14 and picked up their fifth straight win in a non-league matchup.
McConnellsburg scored first in the 11th minute when junior Tucker Hedge headed in a corner kick from Callan Mellott. Junior Noah Jefferson made it 2-0 in the 19th minute, finishing a rebound after Grady Shives put a shot on goal. The Spartans carried that 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the 13th minute of the second half, senior Hoyt Glenn dribbled past three Flames defenders and placed a shot into the right front corner of the net for the Spartan’s third goal. The Flames answered in the 29th minute with its lone score.
Totals: MHS — 3 goals, 36 shots, 18 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, 3 goalkeeper saves, 4 fouls and 5 free kicks.
SCA — 1 goal, 10 shots, 2 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, 14 goalkeeper saves, 5 fouls and 4 free kicks.
After five games, the Spartans have outscored their opponents 47 to 9.
The Spartans (5-0, 3-0 ICC-E) will host the Rockwood Rockets in a league contest continuation on September 16 at 6 p.m.
