McConnellsburg answered an early Tussey Mountain goal with four first-half scores. The Titans struck first less than three minutes in on a corner kick that crossed the goal line, but the Spartans responded three minutes later when senior wing Gemma Gordon scored off a Katelynn Shives assist. The Spartans kept pressure on the keeper, adding three more before halftime: Gordon scored again in the 18th minute on a Marin DeShong assist; center fullback Molly McKelvy converted an unassisted free kick in the 33rd minute; and Gordon completed her first-half hat trick with an unassisted goal in the final two minutes.

The Spartans added four more goals in the second half while allowing one. Less than two minutes after the break, Gordon crossed to junior striker DeShong, who skillfully headed in the team’s fifth goal. Kya Washabaugh scored in the fourth minute off another Gordon assist.  DeShong added an unassisted goal in the ninth minute.  Senior wing Syd Buterbaugh scored 20 yards out in the 12th minute for the eighth goal. Tussey Mountain scored its final goal with 12 minutes remaining after a free kick outside the 18 led to a scramble near the goal line.

McConnellsburg 8, Tussey Mountain 2. The Lady Spartans visited the Tussey Mountain Lady Titans on September 9 for a cross-conference game and stormed to their fourth straight win.
