CEDAR CLIFF AT CHAMBERSBURG
Game data: The Colts travel to Trojan Stadium for a Mid Penn Commonwealth clash against the Trojans, 7 p.m. … Live stream on MidPennBroadcasting.com.
Last week: Chambersburg (0-2, 0-1 MPC) was throttled by State College, 38-0 … Cedar Cliff (0-2, 0-1 MPC) was whipped by Harrisburg, 54-14 … The Colts also fell 30-20 to Red Land in Week 1.
The opponent: Cedar Cliff has a trio of quality players on offense — QB Jalen Hinton (6-2, 180), who has thrown for 299 yards (17-for-31) for 3 scores; TE Blake Secrest (6-3, 230), who has caught 7 psses for 184 yards and 2 TDs; and RB Landon Howell (5-11, 215), who has 121 yards on 29 carries … “They’ve got some really good players,” Trojan coach Gary Carter said. “Secrest is good, the quarterback is very mobile and Howell, who came back from ACL surgery, hurt us last year (15 carries, 120 yards in a 35-7 Colts win) is hard to tackle. They’ve got some size up front, too, and they used some jumbo packages last year. Our priorities are to block well on offense and tackle and contain on defense.”
Coach’s view: “We had two more starters go down this week, so now we’re up to about eight starters out,” Carter said. “You can’t make this stuff up. We had some kids who we thought would be back by now, but they’re still recovering. It was nice last week that we had both quarterbacks playing (Cam Green started and Jashaun Palmer also played). Cam came back from his injury and Jashaun split time between receiver and quarterback.”
Unsung: “The offensive line is not far off from being pretty good,” Carter said. “They just made a few mistakes, but played well overall, and they’re jelling.” … The OL includes Brady Lohman, Colton Kuhns, Noah Kish, Karter Daley and Omar Hanchey.
Trojan statistics: Rushing — Malachi Tasker 28-80, 1 TD … Passing — Green 23-for-43, 314 yards, 1 TD, 2 int. … Receiving — Palmer 6-133; Luke Ocker 3-98, 1 TD; Seth Gilliam 5-30; Tasker 3-35; Bryce Deneen 4-22 … Tackles — Deakon Snavely, Devon Nalewak and Colton Horst 6 each.
GREENCASTLE-ANTRIM AT JAMES BUCHANAN
Game data: The Blue Devils will have their first road game of the season, making the short trip to Mercersburg to face the Rockets in a non-league game Friday at 7 p.m. … Live stream on MidPennBroadcasting.com.
Last week: G-A (1-1) was defeated 30-14 by South Western … JB (1-1) fell 41-6 to Northeastern … The Rockets beat Claysburg-Kimmel in their first game.
The opponent: This is James Buchanan’s first season in the South Central Athletic League, which is the new name of the York-Adams league after JB, Big Spring and Shalom Christian joined the circuit … The Rockets’ top players are Christian Pine (RB/LB), Hunter Egli (RB), Shawn Fisher (DT/OT), Brock Martin (TE/DE) and Zack Stoner (QB).
Coach’s view: G-A coach Jason Thurston said, “We’ve heard that this is The Game for them, so we know they’ll be ready to play.. We respect them, and we need to make things happen early. And if the ball bounces their way, we will have to deal with adversity. They have an unorthodox offense, sometimes bunching four receivers, sometimes with three backs. You know that (Pine) and (Egli) will get a lot of carries. Hats off to coach (Cliff) Pine for trying to change the luck of the program.”
Unsung: “Luke Hull has been playing good defense,” Thurston said, “and he had a bunch of tackles last week. Loki Huffman is a kid who is hard to block. Last week (South Western) had to move their best O-lineman around because they needed him on Loki.” … Hull has 9 tackles and Huffman has 7, plus 2 sacks.
Blue Devil Statistics: Rushing — Spancer Long 15-108, 1 TD; Landon Kagarise 15-47, 1 TD … Passing — Gavin Logsdon 8-for-21, 203 yards, 3 TDs … Receiving — Wyatt Hull 2-100, 2 TDs; Long 1-70, 1 TD; Kagarise 2-14 … Tackles — Braden Eckert 15, Ethan South 11, Damien Johns 11 … Blocked FG — W. Hull 2.
