The Shippensburg High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is honored to announce the Class of 2026. The inductees are as follows: Coach Lynne Diehl (Honorary), Eric Chamberlin (Class of 2004), and Lauren (Plasterer) Wilder (Class of 2005). This year’s class will be inducted during a ceremony in the SASHS cafeteria at 5:00 on Friday, September 4th and recognized during halftime of the home football game vs. Mifflin County that same evening at Greyhound Stadium.

Lynne Diehl (Honorary Inductee)

Mrs. Lynne Diehl was a dedicated employee of the Shippensburg Area School District for 35 years and continued to volunteer for many years with SASHS athletics after her retirement. A coach with over 30 years of experience in four sports, Mrs. Lynne Diehl exhibited what dedication and Greyhound pride are all about, beginning her coaching journey as an assistant field hockey coach at SASHS in 1976. She was part of many firsts in athletics at Shippensburg including coaching the first middle school girls’ basketball, volleyball, and field hockey teams. She moved up to coach the SASHS varsity field hockey team from 1984-2008 (with a hiatus in 1988 for maternity leave) amassing 190 wins, 2 Mid Penn Titles, 7 District III playoff appearances, one District runner-up, and one PIAA berth. She was named Mid Penn Coach of the Year four times, the 2008 Public Opinion and Sentinel Coach of the Year and was a National Field Hockey Coach of the Year Nominee.Mrs. Diehl helped numerous players further their careers in college, and she even coached a player who went on to play for the U.S. National Field Hockey Team (Robin Smith Cooke from 1990-1992). Lynne coached multiple current members of ourShippensburg High School Hall of Fame as well. She also was an assistant coach in softball helping guide the Greyhounds to the 2003 District III title, several division titles, and an undefeated regular season in 2004. A trailblazer in female sports at Shippensburg High School, Lynne Diehl was a strong mentor and leader for countless female athletes in multiple sports for three decades wearing the Maroon and Gray. 

Eric Chamberlin (Class of 2004) 

During his time at SASHS, Eric Chamberlin participated in soccer, basketball, and baseball. While a gifted athlete in each sport, Eric set records and left a legacy on the soccer field. A  four-year letter winner in baseball, Eric pitched and played centerfield for the Greyhounds. With a career batting average over .300, he was a steady force in the lineup for Coach John Barthalow. Eric made an immediate impact as a freshman on the varsity team, leading the team in runs, stolen bases, and home runs in 2001. He was named to the Big 11 All-Underclassmen team in 2002 and was a two-time Mid Penn and Public Opinion All-Star. On the soccer pitch is where Eric left milestones that lasted decades. He amassed 135 career points, which was a Greyhound record that stood for 21 years. Eric led the team to a Mid Penn title in 2003 and was named to several soccer all-star teams including the Mid Penn, Public Opinion, and Sentinel First Teams multiple times. Over 20 years later, Eric is still widely known as one of the best soccer players to ever take the field wearing a Greyhound jersey. He also earned a varsity letter in basketball his sophomore year and he finished his Greyhound athletic career with a combined 9 varsity letters. He was selected as a member of the Who’s Who in Sports in 2003, and he received the President’s Education Outstanding Academic Achievement Award in 2004. He also received the prestigious Roy V. Mouer Award his senior year. Tragically, Eric passed away in December 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. Eric’s family will represent him at Friday evening’s induction ceremony.

Lauren (Plasterer) Wilder (Class of 2005)

Lauren was a standout athlete at SASHS in both basketball and softball. While she was a two-year letter winner in 2003 and 2004 on the basketball court, she excelled most in the circle on the softball field. A member of four Mid Penn title teams (2002-2005), a District III Champion (2003), and both a District and State silver medalist (2005), Lauren’s ability and leadership were instrumental during that period of Greyhound success on the softball diamond. Her dominance on the mound led to one of the most successful seasons in the entire history of the SASHSsoftball program in 2005. During her senior year, she had an 18-3 record, pitched 30 1/3 scoreless innings with a 0.53 ERA, and struck out 207 batters, Lauren was lights out in the playoffs, not allowing a single earned run in four District playoff games and striking out a combined 37 batters in four State playoff games, including 8 K’s in the PIAA title game.  Truly the ace of the staff in her junior and senior years, Lauren’s career record on the mound was 45-6, she pitched 270 innings for the Greyhounds, amassing 363 total strikeouts, a 45-6 overall record, and had a miniscule career ERA of 0.72. A constant name on softball All-Star teams, “LP” as she was known to her teammates and coaches was a two-time selection to the Mid Penn All-Star Team, and a three-time selection to the Public Opinion All-Star team. She was awarded both the Public Opinion and Carlisle Sentinel Player of the Year in 2005 and was also named to the Patriot-News Big 11 team that same year. Lauren’s accomplishments as a Greyhound earned her the opportunity to continue her softball career at the collegiate level, playing for Shippensburg University from 2006-2007.

With the 2026 induction, there are now 41 members of the SASHS Athletic Hall of Fame.
