2026 CHAMBERSBURG ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE

Kellen Williams spent his high school years at Chambersburg as a quintessential and impressive three-sport athlete who excelled in each of his endeavors. He was a two-way star in football, helped the basketball team to a District 3 crown and was a state contender in track & field.

He went on to have a stellar career at Kutztown University in football.

Williams is one of 9 individuals and one team that will be inducted into the Chambersburg Athletic Hall of Fame on Sept. 18-19.

Other individuals are Terri Yeager, Carla (Shearer) Christian, Craig Helmuth, Brooke (Jacobs) Lombardozzi, Norm Snowberger, Paul Kaiser, Jack Mull, and Steve Moore, and the 1989 state champion girls cross country team. Stories on each of them have been or will be published this summer.

Williams made his mark on the football field as a clutch wide receiver and athletic cornerback. He was named the Public Opinion Player of the Year in his senior season (2012) when he caught 32 passes for 753 yards and 12 touchdowns, made 49 tackles, had 4 interceptions and broke up another 4 passes.

In basketball, Williams’ highlight came in his junior season when the Trojans, seeded No. 15, swept 4 games in the District 3 playoffs and won the Class 6A title with a thrilling 52-49 upset over Harrisburg in the championship game.

Williams scored all of his 16 points in the second half, including a dagger of a 3-pointer with 0:58 left to put Chambersburg ahead after trailing by 11 early in the fourth quarter.

He averaged 14.3 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per game and was named the P.O. Player of the Year. He earned that award again as a senior when he put up 15.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler said at the time, “Kellen brings a lot to the table. He’s a really special player and does so many things well in terms of scoring, rebounding and defense.”

In the spring, Williams turned to track. His best event was the 300 hurdles, but he also helped Chambersburg in the sprints, relays and jumps.

In his junior season, he placed fifth in the 300 hurdles at the PIAA Championships with a time of 38.49. The next year, Williams was the state runner-up, with his time of 38.36 trailing only Wellington Zaza of Garnet Vallley (37.24).

When it came time to figure out where he wanted to go to college and which sport to play, Williams chose Kutztown University and football. It turned out to be a great fit.

He was a leader on the Golden Bears’ offense in his last three seasons at wide receiver. Williams ended up as the school’s all-time career leader in receptions (214), receiving yards (2,970) and touchdown catches (31), and all three of those records still stand. His 219 receiving yards in one game is the second-highest total in Kutztown history.

Williams was named to the PSAC East first team in 2014, 2015 and 2016. In 2016 he was a semifinalist for a national award, the William V. Campbell Trophy, given by the National Football Foundation to a college football player in any division for their academics, leadership and on-field performance.
