SHIPPENSBURG –The final day of the PIAA Track & Field Championships was a rainy and ugly day for the athletes.
Two Franklin County performers were able to ignore the wet and cold weather to bring home medals.
In Girls Class 2A, James Buchanan sophomore sprinter Cheyenne Eby shone the brightest.
In the 100-meter dash, Eby clocked a time of 12.39 and earned a seventh-place medal. The winner, Piper Hopvich of Wellsboro, posted an 11.90 time.
Eby came back later in the day and was the runner-up in the 400-meter run. Eby had an excellent time of 57.13, but could not catch Winchester-Thurston’s DaShea Cochran, who hit the line in 56.55.
Shippensburg senior Ayden Foust competed in the discus in Boys Class 3A and his best throw was 164-11. He nailed that throw on his final attempt to nose out Carlisle’s Drew Hopper (164-10). The winner, Grayson Pittman of Avon Grove, hit 187-11.
Bailey Hurley of Greencastle-Antrim was the only other local competitor who placed better than 20th place. Hurley, a senior, was 15th in the Girls Class 3A discus, with a toss of 106-7.
