Chambersburg (11-6, 11-5 MPC) will now possibly be the No. 8 seed for the District 3 Class 3A playoffs, which begin Friday. That would give the Trojans a home game in the first round.

Since the program began in 2013, this is the first District 3 qualification for Chambersburg.

“It was just a crazy game, because they needed to win to get into districts and we wanted to improve our position,” Trojan coach Shane Henry said. “It was a typical Monday game — we came out flat and couldn’t get going. But we got it to 7-7 by halftime and turned it on in the second half.

“Mechanicsburg (10-8) played hard and went after every ground ball. We had two tough games with them (a 12-11 win in the first meeting).”

Chambersburg was awarded a free position 8-meter shot after a late penalty and Adele Henry took the shot, scoring with 0:46 remaining.

The Trojan defense was led by goalie Reese Heverley (11 saves) and defenseman Mollie Yardley-Gontz (3 caused turnovers, 4 groundballs).

Henry said, “Mollie was a defensive beast out there and Reese had maybe her best-ever game. She was lights out.”

Reagan Barrett led the scoring with 4 goals, 2 caused turnovers, and groundball and 4 draw controls, and Brynn Sekel was all over the scoresheet with 2 goals, 2 assists, 4 groundballs and 6 draw controls.

Adele Henry added 2 goals, an assist and a groundball; Jordyn Sprankle had a goal, a CTO and a groundball; and Kaitlyn Brady had 2 goals, an assist and a CTO.
