SOFTBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 4, Big Spring 2: The Bulldogs, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A in District 3, has lost just twice this spring, and they have both been to the Blue Devils, the latest being Monday afternoon in a crucial Mid Penn Colonial game at home.

Kiersten Swain (6-2) found a groove in the circle for G-A (14-2, 10-2 MPC), winners of 9 straight games. She allowed just 4 hits and 1 earned run, walked none and whiffed 13 batters.

“We played very well, and it looked the Swain of last year pitching today,” Greencastle coach Mark DeCarli said. “She has been working at it, just making some little adjustments. She looked 100% like herself.”

The Blue Devils scored a run in the first on an RBI base hit by Kylie Kerns. Big Spring (15-2, 11-2 MPC) tied it in the second, then G-A made it 3-1 with two runs in the fifth on an error, a walk and a 2-run double to center by Brooklyn Sanchez.

Izzy Fry slugged a home run for the Bulldogs in the top of the sixth, but Greencastle answered in the bottom half on a walk, a wild pitch and an error.

Kindal Rice was 2-for-3 for Greencastle.

DeCarli said, “Their pitcher kept us in check, but we were able to get some runs when we needed them.”

G-A and Big Spring are tied for first place in the Colonial, but the Blue Devils hold the tiebreaker courtesy of their 2 wins over the Bulldogs.
