BOYS BASEBALL

McConnellsburg 10, Tussey Mountain 1.  On April 22, the Spartans hosted the Tussey Mountain Titans in a non-conference game.  This game reversed the result of the May 2025 District 5 playoff game that ended the Spartans’ chance for a district championship run.  Hoyt Glenn had three hits and four RBIs, including two-run singles in both the fourth and fifth innings.

The Spartans scored first when Shaffer Earley grounded out, bringing Glenn home after his leadoff double. In the second, Titans’ Jax Garner singled to center, bringing in one run tying the game at one.

The Spartans took a 5-1 lead in the fourth inning when Kayden Marpoe singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Glenn singled, scoring two runs.  Earley, Reese Alexander, Marpoe, and Tucker Hedge all scored.  They added five more runs on four hits in the fifth: Gavin DeShong walked in a run, Jace Fletcher singled for two, and Glenn singled for two; in all scoring Earley, Alexander, Hedge, DeShong, and Fletcher.

Glenn earned the win for the Spartans, allowing two hits and one run in five innings with six strikeouts and one walk. Marpoe pitched two scoreless innings in relief, giving up one hit and striking out three.

The Spartans piled up 10 hits in the game. Hedge and Glenn each collected three hits. The Spartans played error-free ball.

Owen Miller took the loss for the Titans. The starter went five and two-thirds innings, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on nine hits, striking out five and walking three. Parker Young tossed one third inning allowing no runs, one hit, striking out none and walking one.

Jace Garner led Tussey Mountain (6-7, 3-2 ICC-E) with one RBI. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Noah Lucko went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead in hits.

SOFTBALL

McConnellsburg 4, Tussey Mountain 6.  The Lady Spartans hosted the Tussey Mountain Lady Titans for a non-conference game on April 22nd and battled in the bottom of the seventh inning with bases loaded but were unable to cash in and suffered a loss.  The Titans scored first in the third inning, then again in the fourth.  A solo run then a three-run in the park homer put the Titans up 6-0 in the top of the fifth inning with the Spartans needing serious offense to close the gap.  The Spartans scored once in the fifth then added three more runs in the seventh, enticing hopes of a comeback.  Despite loading the bases in the final inning, the Spartans could not complete the comeback.  Next, the Lady Spartans (4-7, 2-3 ICC-S) visit the Berkeley Springs Lady Indians (0-14) for a non-league game on April 25 at 12 p.m.
