SOFTBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 26, James Buchanan 8: The Blue Devils left little doubt in a Mid Penn Colonial game in Mercersburg on Monday afternoon, scoring 14 runs in the top of the first inning against the Rockets.
James Buchanan (2-8, 1-7 MPC) scored 8 runs in its final two innings, but Greencastle (10-2, 7-2 MPC) also scored 8 runs in those innings and the game ended after 4 innings.
Kindal Rice had a big day at the plate for the Blue Devils, with 4 hits in 4 at-bats, including 3 doubles. She scored 4 runs and drove in 7 runs.
Miranda Martin was also hot at the plate, going 3-for-3, including her first varsity home run, with 2 runs scored and 4 runs knocked in.
Lydia Pryke and Danica Murphy each had 2 of Greencastle’s 18 hits. Those two, plus Brooklyn Sanchez and Kylie Kerns, each posted 2 RBIs. G-A also worked 10 walks and JB committed 5 errors.
Pryke got the start and allowed 5 hits, while only 2 of the 8 runs off her were earned.
For the Rockets, Maddy Williamson slugged a grand slam in her team’s 5-run third inning. Audrey Dickson produced a pair of hits and drove in 2 runs.
BASEBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 13, James Buchanan 0: Avery Horst and Manny Brookens combined to pitch a 5-inning no-hitter Monday afternoon to lead the Blue Devils over the Rockets in a Mid Penn Colonial home victory.
Horst (5-0) struck out 4 batters in his 3 innings of work, while Brookens fanned 2 and walked one in his 2 innings.
Greencastle coach Eric Shaner said, “The pitchers attacked and didn’t allow any hits. We played good defense and swung the bats pretty well. So we played a pretty complete game today.”
The Blue Devils (12-0, 9-0 MPC) already led 3-0 after 2 innings, then put up a 9-spot in the third to take total control. Landon Bishop had a pair of RBI hits in the inning — one on a bunt — and Horst brought home two runners with a double.
Andrew Weaver and Cam Rakaczewski each had 2 runs driven in, and Weaver, Manny Brookens, Bo Brookens and Bishop each connected for 2 hits for Greencastle.
James Buchanan is 1-10 (0-8 MPC).
