BASEBALL
Central Dauphin 8, Chambersburg 0: The Rams’ pitching allowed only 6 hits and struck out 10 batters to help their team defeat the Trojans in a Mid Penn Commonwealth ballgame Monday afternoon at Linglestown.
Chambersburg (11-2, 6-2 MPC), which had won 7 straight games, still holds a one-game lead in the division standings.
“Hopefully, that’s out of our system,” Chambersburg coach Scott Folmar said. “We didn’t have a ton of hits, but we had a lot of guys on base. But we did not look comfortable at the plate. We took way too many fastball strikes and didn’t have very many good at-bats.”
For the Trojans, Bryce Deneen and Ryne Mills hit doubles, and Deneen was 2-for-3. Chambersburg had runners on first and second with one out in the fourth, had the bases loaded with 2 outs in the fifth and got the first two batters on base in the sixth and couldn’t find a way to score.
Hayden Lyons (2-1), Chambersburg’s starter, had some control issues, walking 5 in 1.1 innings, and allowing 4 runs on 2 hits. Devon Nalewak relieved and went the final 4.2 innings, giving up 3 earned runs on 3 hits and 4 walks.
Folmar said, “We gave them nine walks in six innings, and that’s way too many. They only had five hits, but they did little things to take advantage of all the free passes we gave them.”
For Central Dauphin (6-4, 4-3 MPC), Tommy Powell hit a triple and drove in 3 runs.
