G-A roundup: Baseball, softball teams rip West Perry

SOFTBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 19, West Perry 2: The Blue Devils built a 10-2 lead, then put up 9 runs in the top of the sixth inning to end the Mid Penn Colonial game on the road against the Mustangs.

Greencastle (8-2, 5-2 MPC) pitcher Kiersten Swain limited the West Perry (2-6) to 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks, and piled up 10 strikeouts.

The 4-5-6 hitters in the Blue Devils lineup were deadly. Kylie Kerns was 3-for-4, scored 4 runs and had a double. Kindall Rice was 3-for-5, drove in 5 runs, scored 3 times and hit a double, and Erika Hoover was 3-for-5 with 2 runs, 2 RBIs and a double.

Leadoff batter Paiton Gordon had a hit and drove in 3 runs, while Allison Logsdon had a hit and a pair of runs batted in.

Greencastle also took advantage of 8 walks and 5 Mustang errors.

BASEBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 15, West Perry 0: The Blue Devils scored 4 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to invoke the 15-run rule and just beat an approaching storm to register a Mid Penn Colonial win Tuesday afternoon at home.

Avery Horst

In the fourth, G-A (10-0, 7-0 MPC) scored one run on a bases-loaded hit by pitch (Nolan Sullivan), then a double off the fence left field by Avery Horst chased in the game-ending runs.

It was part of a monster game for Horst. At the plate, he was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, scored a run and brought in 7 runs. On the mound, Horst was equally dominant, allowing just 2 hits and no walks, and striking out 5 in his 5 innings of work.

“Avery threw a great game,” Greencastle coach Eric Shaner said. “He had no walks and just attacked the strike zone.

“In our last game, we scored 10 runs, but I felt we gave away too many at-bats. I asked them to try to zone in today and they did. I was pleased with all of their at-bats. We played a complete game.”

Sullivan was 2-for-2 with a double, scored 4 runs and batted in 3, and Bryce Davidson was 2-for-2.
