Greencastle-Antrim 10, Shippensburg 4: The Blue Devils posted 5 runs in the third inning and 4 more in the fourth and went on to defeat the Greyhounds in a Mid Penn Colonial game Monday afternoon at home.
“We were a little stagnant early, and didn’t have many great at-bats,” G-A coach Eric Shaner said. “But we got it together and put up a crooked number in consecutive innings.”
Shippensburg (3-7, 2-5 MPC) scored a run in the top of the first off Ryder Linn on a single by Mason Mowery, 2 walks and a fielder’s choice. Linn then pitched 5 straight shutout innings, giving up only 1 more hit, 1 more walk and striking out 9.
“Ryder did some damage control in the first, only giving up one run,” Shaner said, “and in the second through sixth, he was outstanding.”
Greencastle (9-0, 6-0 MPC), got it going in the third against Hound starter Braiden Carroll. After an error, a fielder’s choice and a double from Cam Rakaczewski, there were 2 outs and runners on second and third. Avery Horst drew a walk, then Manny Brookens singled to plate the first two runs.
Bo Brookens then a tagged a pitch over the fence in centerfield for a 3-run home run and a 5-1 lead.
In the fourth, Rakaczewski scored on a single, two stolen bases and a wild pitch. After walks to Avery Horst and Manny Brookens, Bo Brookens singled in a run. Mason Mellott then doubled to left field to drive in the other run. In the sixth, consecutive triples by Horst and Manny Brookens scored the 10th run.
Ship got a 3-run double by Brady Maciejewski after 3 walks were issued by Bo Brookens in the top of the seventh.
