G-A roundup: Baseball routs Delone; softball earns nice win

Greencastle-Antrim 21, Delone Catholic 0: The Blue Devils’ imposing offense dominated again Thursday afternoon, putting up 12 runs in the first inning to hand the Squires a non-league, 4-inning loss in McSherrystown.

Greencastle is now 8-0 and is the No. 1-ranked team in District 3 5A; Delone is 4-2.

G-A coach Eric Shaner said, “We did a good job in all facets today. Ryder Linn threw a great game and Bo Brookens did a great job closing. I was really happy with the at-bats we took throughout the game and we ran the bases well.”

Linn went 3 innings and Brookens tossed one, and gave up just 1 hit between them. Linn had 6 K’s and Brookens fanned 2.

The hitting parade included Andrew Weaver (3-for-4, 4 RBIs), Nolan Sullivan (3-for-3, 3 RBIs); Cam Rakaczewski (2-for-2), Brookens (3 RBIs), Jaxson Bostick and Avery Horst (2 RBIs each).

Greencastle posted 13 hits and drew 10 walks.

SOFTBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 7, South Western 2: A 5-run bottom of the first inning made the difference as the Blue Devils earned a non-league victory over the Mustangs at home on Thursday afternoon.

Lydia Pryke handcuffed the lineup of South Western (4-4), allowing only 4 hits, 2 walks and 1 earned run, while striking out 4. Both runs scored in the top of the sixth.

Greencastle (7-2) got to Mustang pitcher Brooke Thoman right away in the bottom of the first. With one out, Kiersten Swain and Brooklyn Sanchez singled and an error put them on second and third base. Kylie Kerns singled to right field for a run and Kindal Rice grounded a ball into center field to make it 2-0.

Erika Hoover then lined a hit to center to score a run, and the fourth run came home on an error. After an out, Minnie Gambacurta produced a base hit to score Hoover.

Paiton Gordon, Swain and Rice each had 2 hits for the Blue Devils.
