BOYS TRACK & FIELD
State College 79, Chambersburg 71: The Trojans captured first place in more events (10-8), but the Little Lions had a little more depth and held on for a Mid Penn Commonwealth win in State College on Thursday afternoon.
“It was tough to lose such a close one,” Chambersburg coach Jim Boyer said, “especially when our guys were having great days performance-wise and spreading themselves thin to try to grab as many points as they could in multiple events.
“Unfortunately, we were also missing some key guys with injuries, whose potential performances could have maybe swung the meet the other way.”
The Trojans (3-1, 3-1 MPC) had a pair of double winners on the track. Julian Clark took wins in the 1600 (4:34.20) and 3200 (9:55.65) and Jon Dawe hit the line first in both hurdle events, the 110 (15.67) and 300 (42.59).
Okenie McLaughlin won twice in the jumps — 5-6 in the high jump and 44-4.50 in the triple jump — and was second in the long jump. The other winners were Daniel Souza-Casagrandi in the 400 (52.22) and Mason Mowen in the javelin (148-7).
Chambersburg also collected wins in two relays, the 4×800 (Isaac Stepan, Aden Goshorn. Ben Lin and Sam Kinton, in 8:37.34) and the 4×400 (Dawe, Clark, Boston Vincenti and Souza-Casagrandi, in 3:39.19).
Jayden Stokes placed third in the 100 with a career-best time of 11.37.
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

Chambersburg (3-1, 3-1 MPC) was able to take first place in only 3 individual events and a pair of relays.
“State College has an incredible team,” Trojan coach Chris Monheim said, “but I thought we competed well and had a strong meet.”
Natalie Quinn came up with a win in the 1600, hitting the line in 5:24.04. In the field, Olivia Coy was first in the triple jump with a leap of 34-3, while Kendall Temchak captured the javelin with a throw of 94-1.
The 4×100 relay team of Natalia Anderson, Dechea Davis, Jaxin Frazer and Addy Brubaker took first with a time just under 50 seconds (49.99). The 4×400 team also picked up a first — the team of Brubaker, Coy, Bree Paetow and Maggie Holtry timed out in 4:11.23.
“Natalie Quinn was outstanding today, running a great 1600 in windy conditions,” Monheim said. “Both of the winning relays were outstanding.”
Two Chambersbug runners-up hit career bests — Ada Velazquez in the pole vault (9-0) and Mikaila Collins in the shot put (32-7).

GIRLS LACROSSE
Chambersburg 12, Mechanicsburg 11: The Trojans outscored the Wildcats 5-1 in the third period to take a 12-8 lead, then hung on for a one-goal win in a Mid Penn Commonwealth contest on the road Thursday evening.
“We took advantage of Mechanicsburg having some penalty troubles in the third,” Chambersbug coach Shane Henry said. “But they continued to fight back and got to 12-11 with 3 minutes left. It was a total team win tonight — we planned and executed.”
Reagan Barrett was efficient on offense, taking only 10 shots but hitting the net on 6 of them.
“She just stays cool under pressure; it was very fun to watch her do her thing,” Henry said.
Also scoring goals for Chambersburg (5-3, 5-3 MPC) were Brynn Sekel (3), Adele Henry (2) and Jordyn Sprankle (1), and assists were posted by Kaitlyn Brady (2), Sprankle (2), Sekel (1) and Barrett (1). Leaders in caused turnovers were Yardley Gontz (4), Sprankle (4), Sekel (3) and Henry (2).
Coach Henry said, “The team hustled hard and we pressured in the midfield better than we have all season. We had 14 caused turnovers due to the hustle and relentless play. Mollie was impressive on defense — every time I looked, she was closing in on a girl with the ball. And (goalie) Reece Heverley (13 saves) had some clutch saves at critical times.”
