Trojans’ Amir Tasker wins District 3 200 free race

NEW KINGSTOWN — The Chambersburg boys swim team had a fine start Friday at the District 3 Championships, winning one event and taking high places in several other races.

Amir Tasker swam to a gold medal in the 200 freestyle, and the Trojans picked up points in 5 of the 6 events on Friday to head to the final day tomorrow in third place in the team standings.

Amir Tasker

“We are hanging in there with the team scores and if we swim well tomorrow, we’ll be in contention,” Chambersburg coach Chad White said.

Tasker blew away the field in the 200 free, hitting the wall in a time of 1:39.08, bettering the runner-up, Charlie Rogers of Exeter Township, by 1.34 seconds.

White said, “Amir winning the 200 was huge. Winning a District 3 tiele is hard to do, but he won by a wide margin and swam the race very well. It was a personal best by halkf a second and came close to breaking the district record (1:38.80).”

Also in that race, teammates Alex Kaczmark was fourth in 1:41.10 and Ethan White was 11th in 1:44.27.

Cristian Pong earned a runner-up finish in the 100 butterfly, touching in 49.66 to 47.85 by Wilson’s Kai Boyer. Tasker picked fourth in the fly with a time of 49.87. Cullen McGraw placed 6th in the 200 IM in 1:57.57.

“Cristian had a great race in the 100 fly. His time will give him a high seed at states,” coach White said. “Cullen and Alex both swam high school season-best times and should get into states.”

Calla Hoffman

The Trojans also had a pair of top-8 finishes in relays. They placed third in the 200 free relay, with the team of Kaczmark, Tasker, Pong and Luke Ritchie finishing in 1:26.74. In the 200 medley relay, McGraw, White, Pong and Ritchie hit 1:37.85 to place 8th.

Host Cumberland Valley leads in the team chase with 157 points, followed by Hershey (149.5) and Chambersburg (140).

For the Trojan girls, Calla Hoffman produced the top result, a sixth-place finish in the 100 butterfly in a time of 59.36. Ava Grove was 18th in the 200 IM (2:20.11) and the 200 medley relay team of Hoffman, Grove, Audrey Keller and Brooke Reichelderfer placed 8th in 1:55.74.

“The girls had a very solid day all around,” Trojan coach Abbie Reichelderfer said. “The 200 medley team made the podium, Ava finally came out with a personal best time, dropping almost 2 seconds in the 200 IM, Calla had a personal best in the 100 fly, and taking sixth was a huge accomplishment, and Audrey was just off a personal best in the fly.”

Waynesboro’s Ruth Phillips swam the 50 free in a tie for 9th in a time of 24.70.

The Maidens are tied for 11th place in the team standings, while Chambersburg is in 14th place.
