GIRLS BASKETBALL
McConnellsburg 71 Fannett-Metal 37. The Lady Spartans had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 34-point drubbing they dealt Fannett-Metal Lady Tigers at a home ICC game on February 3rd. The Spartans simply couldn’t be stopped as they easily beat the Tigers 71-37. This is the Spartans’ fifth consecutive victory against the Tigers.
The Spartans (11-8, 4-2 ICC-S) were led to victory by Serenity Rengifo, who returned to form with an outrageously good game as she shot 53% from the field to rack up 22 points and five steals. She also posted three blocks, the most since February 2025. Brookelynn Gelvin, another key player, went 5-for-12 en route to 11 points, with five rebounds and three steals. Sydney Buterbaugh posted eight points, five rebounds, and two steals. Off the bench, freshman center Liv Newman scored seven points and pulled eight boards. Kya Washabaugh also pulled eight boards. Eleven players contributed and ten scored.
The Spartans exhibited more zest, quickness, and drive for the game, and showed better defense execution, and improved offensive cohesiveness. As a result, they smashed the offensive glass and finished with 18 offensive rebounds. The team’s been excelling in that area: having improved their offensive board total in three consecutive contests. They also set new season records for blocks, steals and assists.
The Tigers (0-16, 0-6 ICC-S) were led by Toree Hoffman with 15 points and Klarity Hasenbuhler with 12.
