Glenn achieves 1,000 to lead McConnellsburg over Everett
BOYS BASKETBALL
McConnellsburg 56, Everett 35. The Spartans found a packed house at Everett Friday night January 30th for an Inter-County Conference matchup with the Warriors itching for a revenge victory. Yet the visitors planned a victory celebration and were expecting to see standout Hoyt Glenn reach a milestone of 1,000 points. Well, Everett games are always full of energy and interaction between team and fans alike and this one did not disappoint.
After the first quarter the game was close as each team struggled to find tempo as the Spartans eked ahead 9-7. By the second quarter the Spartans slowly chipped away and added five to get ahead seven at the break, 23-16. The third quarter scoring mirrored the second (14-9) in favor of the Spartans and adding trade-space. By the final frame, the Spartan defense had shortened the Warrior shooting opportunities while increasing their own and steadily reached a 21-point victory and their 17th straight victory.
The Spartans (17-0, 6-0 ICC-S) were led by Glenn with 25 points, five assists, eight steals, followed by Brayden Ramsey with nine points, five assists and five steals. Glenn achieved his 1,000th point with 4:47 left in the third quarter on a 15-foot jumper and became the 13th Spartan to achieve this remarkable milestone. The after game was replete with many photos and a game ball for Glenn.
The Warriors (10-9, 5-2 ICC-S) were led by Nolan Whisel with 13 points, and Macen Weaver with six.
