Strong third quarter powers McConnellsburg over Windber

McConnellsburg 63, Windber 42. A strong Spartan third quarter expanded the halftime nine-point lead to an eventual 21-point victory over host Windber Ramblers in a cross-conference game on January 28th.
The Spartans (16-0, 5-0 ICC-S) won the first three quarters to steadily amass the 21-point advantage. Twenty-two goals were made in the game, with only two free throws taken. Ten goals were made in the third quarter with five from Hoyt Glenn.
Glenn almost dropped a double-double and led all scorers with 22 points, shooting 8-11 (73% 2FG), incorporating nine assists and eight steals. His big performance that evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 20 points. Shaffer Earley was another key Spartan player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he’s played. Brayden Ramsey also added eight points, six assists, and three blocks.
Of note, through 15 games prior to this outing, the Spartan top four scorers versus Rambler top four scorers combined scored 797 and 475 total points respectively, with the Spartans outscoring the Ramblers by 40%.
The Ramblers (9-8, 5-0 ICC-W) were led by Logan Serenko with 13 points, and Sean McClain with seven.

McConnellsburg loses grasp to Meyersdale
GIRLS BASKETBALL
McConnellsburg 41, Meyersdale 44. The Lady Spartans visited the Meyersdale Lady Red Raiders for a cross-conference game on January 28th and held close to the end but fell short by three and snapped a two-game win streak.
It was a close first half with the Red Raiders winning out by a point 24-23 at the break. The Raiders pulled away in the third quarter by five points. Those points were just enough to carry them through the fourth quarter and hold off the Spartan’s 14-11 run and closing seconds attempts to close the gap.
The Spartans (9-8, 2-2 ICC-S) were led by Journie Jefferson with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Serenity Rengifo followed with eight points. Sydney Buterbaugh pulled down nine rebounds.
The Red Raiders (8-8, 3-4 ICC-W) were led by Berkley with 19 points, followed by Grace Barnett with seven points.
