BOYS WRESTLING
Mifflin County 40, Chambersburg 29: The Huskies were too strong in the middle weights for a depleted Trojan lineup to match up with and Mifflin County won a Mid Penn Commonwealth match Saturday morning in the CASHAS Aux Gym.
After splitting the first 4 bouts with Chambersburg (4-3, 2-3 MPC), the Huskies (7-5, 2-2 MPC) ran off wins in 6 of the next 7 weights to close out the win.
“Overall, I think we looked a little flat,” Trojan coach Craig Hight said. “We can’t let the loss affect us — we’ve got to keep learning and improving.”
The Trojans secured pins from Aiden Yarnell at 114 (in 2:26), Deakon Snavely at 215 (0:35) and Frank Barrientos at 285 (0:58).
Other winners were Justin Deneen, with a 17-1 technical fall at 152, and Isaac Brambley, with a forfeit at 127.
In the highlight bout at 189, Mifflin County’s Reese Christian (16-6 coming in) posted a wild 14-11 decision over Jaccob Stoner (15-6).
Stoner owned the first period and led 6-1 after one. But Christian was strong on top, catching Stoner for three 4-point nearfalls, two on 2-on-1 tilts and one on a cradle for a 13-6 lead. Stoner rallied with a reversal in the third, but a late takedown was not enough.
Hight said, “We’re kind of in a tough spot now — we have nine kids (not all starters) out for the season with injuries. All we can do is try to get them ready for the postseason tournaments.”
