BOYS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 61, Central Dauphin East 46: The Panthers could not recover from a 15-0 run by the Trojans to start the game and lost by that exact number of points in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game at CASHS Field House on Tuesday night.
“We had a tremendous start, thanks to a really strong defensive effort,” Chambersburg coach Shawn Shreffler said. “To hold that team to 2 points in the first quarter and 19 points below their season average takes a really locked-in and focused effort on the defensive end.
“I thought Landon (Buhrman’s) defense right out of the gate was outstanding against an extremely good player, No. 3 (Alijah Cooper).”
The Panthers (6-3, 3-3 MPC), who received 18 points from Amryn Chase and 14 from Cooper, did not score until a minute was left in the first period.
For Chambersburg (6-4, 3-3 MPC), Malachi Duhaney scored 17 points, including a 7-for-7 effort at the foul line. Grayson Kegerreis scored 15, Colton Cornwell had 12 and Angelo Onomastico added 11. Onomastico hit corner threes to open the third and fourth periods.
Shreffler said, “We had some really good possessions on offense. We were good in transition early, and did a decent job against their pressure late. Colton made some great decisions with the press and plays with exceptional poise.
“Grayson, Angelo and Malachi each elevated their game by expanding their roles. We’ve been committed to improving defensively and becoming a better team at executing in the half court. It was great to see some of the fruits of our labor on display tonight.”

BOYS SWIMMING
Chambersburg 89, State College 81: The Trojans picked up key points beyond the top-3 finishers and turned that into a huge Mid Penn Commonwealth win over the Little Lions on Tuesday afternoon at the Chambersburg YMCA.
“It was a really fun and intense meet,” Chambersburg coach Chad White said. “State College kept fighting the whole time and we never backed down. There were a ton of of great, close races that had a big impact on the final score.”
Griff Adamek took a 4th and a 5th, both times just beating an SC opponent, resulting in a 4-point swing. He was also on a pair of B relays that placed 3rd to score crucial points.
The B relays in the 200 medley (Cullen McGraw, Xavier Covington, Adamek and Colby Evans) and 200 freestyle (Evans, Adamek, Kahne Smith and Kruz Swope) created a swing of 8 points.
Winners for the Trojans (3-1, 2-1 MPC) included Amir Tasker (50 free in 24.68, 100 free in 55.14); Alex Kaczmark (200 free in 2:01.82); Cristian Pong (100 fly in 56.98), McGraw (400 free in 4:15.18) and Ethan White (1000 breaststroke in 1:10.55).
A pair of relay teams also placed first — 200 medley (Tasker, White, Pong and Luke Ritchie) with a time of 1:57.65, and the 200 free team of Kaczmark, White, Covington and Ritchie in a time of 1:44.67.
Coach White said, “Cullen had a tough opponent in the 400 and his win kept our momentum going. I thought the (other individual winners) put up good times in their events.”
GIRLS SWIMMING
State College 109, Chambersburg 56: The powerful Little Lions team took a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory over the Trojans on Tuesday at the Chambersburg YMCA, winning all but 2 events.
The wins for the Trojans (0-4, 0-3 MPC) came in the 100 breaststroke when Ava Grove swam a 1:22.91 to hit the ball first and in the 400 free relay when the team of Melani David, Jade Uglow, Sarah Foster and Ashton Lucas won in 5:31.0.
Chambersburg coach Abbie Reichelderfer said, “This was out first home meet, and it’s a short-course meter pool, so that threw a learning curve into the recent groove we’ve had in short-course yard pools.”
Calla Hoffman recorded a 2nd in the 100 backstroke and a 3rd in the 200 free, while Audrey Keller was third in the 100 free. In the breaststroke, Uglow was 2nd and Graciana Clark took 3rd. The 200 free relay of Hoffman, Grove, Keller and Brooke Reichelderfer took 2nd.
Coach Reichelderfer said, “This meet allowed some swimmers to try new events, or familiar events in a different length. I think what the team learned is that it is valuable to swim their own race no matter who they up against and to keep a good attitude.”
