Trojans win team title at tournament: Chambersburg had 8 wrestlers earn places in the top five Saturday at the Bulldog Girls Invitational at Big Spring — including two individual champions — and took home the team title.
The Trojans scored 193 points to outlast Gettysburg, which had 188.
“It is very cool to bring home the team title,” Chambersburg coach Josh Sherman said. “Gettysburg has been the top dog around here in girls wrestling, and I’m really impressed to see what these girls are doing.
“The girls stuck together all day and were in each other’s corner supporting them.”
Aulana Stanton was 3-0 to earn the title at 170 pounds, while Lillybeth Alcantaras moved up to 235 and made the move count by winning the crown, also going 3-0.
Stanton had two pins to reach the final against Aambur Brietich of Northern York. In the final, she won 9-5, getting the first two takedowns for a 6-0 lead. Brietich rallied to within 6-5 in the third, but a clinching takedown with 0:13 left sealed it for Stanton.
In the 235 final, Alcantaras was scoreless after one period vs. Sophie Ventura of Cedar Crest, but escaped and took Ventura down for a 4-0 lead after two. In the third, Ventura scored on two stalling points and had an escape with 0:24 left, but could not score again.
“Those two were very special,” Sherman said. “They beat two really good opponents. Aulana has been battling being sick and Lillybeth went up a weight so she could use her athletic ability at 235.”
Reagan Evans (136) pinned three foes to reach the final, but fell to Ella Teufert of Octorara. Hadyn Fritz (148) also had 3 pins to get to the final, but lost to Lily Raudabaugh of Big Spring.
Placing third were Piper Jones at 130 and Daryn Glasgow at 155, Emily Shaffner took fourth at 100 and Alba Rojas was fifth at 142.
Sherman said, “It was a tremendous day for the girls. We won the team title, we had four in the finals and we even had a middle school champion (Mira Harbaugh).”

Trojans’ Barrientos takes 2nd: Chambersburg 285-pouunder Frank Barrientos was the only Trojan to place in the tough King of the Mountain tournament at Central Mountain this weekend.
Barrientos, seeded No. 2, finished as the runner-up to Matthew Scott of Council Rock South. He dropped a 4-1 decision in the final, giving up a penalty point and a takedown in the second period. In the third, Barrientos escaped early, but could not hit a tying takedown.
Chambersburg coach Craig Hight said, “Frank could have opened up a little bit on his feet. His kid defended Frank’s underhooks and stayed away.”
Barrientos went 4-1 with four pins. Justin Deneen (145) and Deakon Snavely (215) were the only other Trojans with winning records, both at 3-2. Aiden Yarnell (114), Jaccob Stoner (189) and Chris Wilkerson (215) were both 2-2.
Hight said, “We wrestled pretty well, but made some mistakes that cost us. But it was tough competition and we need to learn some things to e able to take the next step. We’ll go back to the drawing board and get ready for Trojan Wars.”
Chambersburg, which placed 18th among 32 teams, hosts the 52-team Trojan Wars event this coming Saturday and Sunday.
