Central Dauphin 63, Chambersburg 43: The Rams put a hurting on the Trojans in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game at CD on Tuesday night.
Central Dauphin (5-1, 3-0 MPC) smothered Chambersburg (3-2, 1-2 MPC) with a trapping press that produced a slew of turnovers, and the Rams simply owned the boards. Incredibly, the Trojans had only 8 defensive rebounds and 1 offensive board for the game.
“We took one on the chin from one of the best teams in District 3,” Chambersburg coach Shawn Shreffler said. “On defense, we weren’t able to limit them to one and done, giving up way too many second-chance points. We shot over 50% from the field, but we had too many turnovers to benefit from our efficiency.”
At the halftime buzzer, the Trojans were called for a disputed foul on a 3-point attempt, and CD’s Shakar Starling made all 3 foul shots for a 33-24 lead and Chambersburg never threatened in the second half.
Malachi Duhaney scored a season-high 19 points for the Trojans, including 14 to keep his team alive in the first half. Colton Cornwell added 11 points.
Starling produced 21 to pace CD and Kahlil Roberts added 11.
Shreffler said, “We need to use these early-season challenges to galvanize us and help make us better together.”

BOYS SWIMMING
Chambersburg 113, Dover 69: The Trojans made their first trip to the Eagles’ pool and came home with 3 pool records on their way to a 113-69 non-league victory on Tuesday afternoon.
Cristian Pong posted a record in the 100 butterfly (52.82), Cullen McGraw’s winning time of 4:46.11 set a mark in the 500 freestyle and the 400 free relay team of McGraw, Ethan White, Pong and Amir Tasker set a time of 3:17.36.
“We came out strong and kept firing the whole meet,” Chambersburg coach Chad White. “Everyone contributed to the score and we had a lot of best times.”
Tasker, White and Pong each won a pair of events for the Trojans (1-1). Tasker won the 50 free in 22.04 and the 100 free in 49.37 and White took the 200 free in 1:50.93 and the 100 backstroke in 59.98. Pong also hit the wall first in the 200 IM (1:59.56).
Chambersburg also got a win from Nolan Diehl in diving, with 159.85 points, and the 200 medley relay team of McGraw, Pong, Xavier Covington and Tasker was first in a time of 1:41.16.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Dover 102, Chambersburg 80: The Trojan girls were missing 8 swimmers because of a school event and illness, but they still gave a good effort in a non-league defeat on the road to the Eagles on Tuesday afternoon.
“The girls were a small but mighty force today, although we didn’t come out with a win,” Chambersburg coach Abbie Reichelsderfer said. “Due to having less depth within the team, I looked for the girls to compete to the best of their ability in each event and they definitely delivered.”
Calla Hoffman captured a pair of firsts for the Trojans (0-2), taking the 200 freestyle in 2:05.76 and the 100 backstroke in 1:03.09, and Ava Grove was also a double winner — capturing the 200 IM in 2:25.94 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.39.
Addison Zimmerman was first in diving with 161.80 points, while the Chambersburg 200 medley relay team of Hoffman, Grove, Brooke Reichelderfer and Zimmerman won in 2:04.25.
Coach Reichelderfer said, “Ashton Lucas had personal bests in the 200 free (2:32.95) and 500 free (6:52.92). She had an amazing meet. Some girls — Brooke Reichelderfer, Savannah White and Addie Zimmerman — really improved in their events since our meet last week.”
