CHAMBERSBURG at CENTRAL DAUPHIN
Game data: Trojans at Rams on Friday at Landis Field, 7 p.m. … Mid Penn Commonwealth game … Live stream available on MidPennBroadcasting.com.
Last week: Chambersburg (4-5, 3-5 MPC) lost 7-0 to Cumberland Valley on a score with 0:26 left … CD (3-6, 3-5 MPC) was blanked by Harrisburg, 27-0.
Playoff scenario: Chambersburg is currently ranked No. 9 in District 3 Class 6A (the top 10 teams qualify for the playoffs) … Four teams are 4-5 — No. 8 CV, No. 9 Chambersburg, No. 10 Cedar Crest and No. 11 Dallastown … CV plays Cedar Cliff (5-4), Cedar Crest plays Lebanon (0-9) and Dallastown takes on Red Lion (3-6) … The Rams are ranked No. 13 and would need a win and plenty of help to get in.
The opponent: CD has scored 179 points and allowed 228, while the Trojans have scored 107 and allowed 218 … For the Rams, quarterback Mark Lebo has completed 52 of 101 passes (52%) for 558 yards, 2 TDs and 6 picks … The top rushers are Kah’mani Garcia (83-357, 7 TDs), Lebo (82-284, 2) and Isaac Hodgson (70-263, 3) … The top pass catchers are Mason Wydra (19-237, 2 TDs) and Brandon Cooper (12-175, 1).
Coach’s view: Chambersburg coach Gary Carter said, “We are focusing on getting a win for the program, and whatever else happens, happens. We were in the same situation last year (needing a win over CD to get into the playoffs) and they beat us (28-21). They may be 3-6, but they’ve played well. Their defense is aggressive like CV’s and will come after us, and they’ve got kids sprinkled around the lineup who can really play.” … One of Carter’s concerns is injuries — there are at least 3 of his starters who will be game-time decisions on whether or not they can play.
Unsung: In last week’s game, the Eagles faced a 4th-and-5 on Chambersburg’s 34 with time beginning to run out … A pass toward CV receiver Zayden Smith was broken up by cornerback Tavian Ferguson, but he was called for holding … Carter said, “Tavian made the play of the game, or it should have been. There was no holding at all. His play should have given us a chance to run a 2-minute offense.” … Carter also credited Cooper Stockslager and Brady Rosenberry for having played a fine game.
Statistics: Trojan leaders: Passing — Cam Green 97-for-165 (59%), 1,058 yards, 7 TDs, 7 int. … Rushing — Malachi Tasker 118-290, 1 TD … Receiving — Davonte Scott 45-575, 5 TDs; Cobe Penick 36-360, 3 TDs; Isaiah Tasker 15-154, 2 TDs; Bryson Murray 13-157; Stockslager 10-112; M.Tasker 11-95, 1 TD.
WEST PERRY at GREENCASTLE-ANTRIM
Game data: Mustangs at Blue Devils at Kaley Field on Friday, 7 p.m. … Mid Penn Colonial game … Live stream on MidPennBroadcasting.com.
Last week: The Mustangs (7-2, 5-2 MPC) survived Milton Hershey, 27-21 … Greencastle (4-5, 3-4 MPC) took a 26-13 win over Boiling Springs for its third-straight victory.
Playoff scenario: The Mustangs have clinched a spot in the District 3 4A playoffs with their No. 6 position … G-A is No. 12, and needs to win plus probably get some help (the top 10 teams qualify) … There are 2 other 4-5 teams and the Blue Devils are the second-highest ranked among them … The No. 8, 9 and 10 teams (Middletown, Kennard-Dale and East Pennsboro) are all 5-4.
The opponent: West Perry’s only losses are to unbeaten Susquehanna Township and to Trinity … The Mustangs run a mid-line option offense, with fullback Evan Jutka (17-105 last week) hitting the middle and Adam Yoder (17-156, 2 TDs) turning upfield on pitches … QB Mason Page was 13-for-18 for 128 yards, 1 TD and 1 pick … Yoder also caught 4 passes for 81 yards and a TD.
Coach’s view: G-A coach Jason Thurston said, “We moved up in the rankings last week when we beat Boiling Springs, so I would hope if we can beat West Perry, we should move up again. Their fullback is tough and will get 5-7 yards every time if you let him, and the pitch man can go the distance. The QB is a freshman, so we need to get some penetration and try to make him make mistakes. Our kids are getting more confident with our offensive terminology and the defense and special teams are tackling better. We’ve gotten to where teams can’t key on one player — we have a lot of weapons now.”
Unsung: Center Gavin Knable was part of an offensive line that helped roll up nearly 500 yards of offense last week … Thurston said, “We lost our starting center in week 2 and Gavin has stepped in and done his job. We hope he has a solid game and makes good decisions this week.”
Statistics: Greencastle leaders: Rushing — Blake Reuter 122-913, 9 TDs; Lars Galinanes 100-502, 5 TDs; Noah Shifflett 41-219, 1 TD … Passing — Lane Barry 53-114 (47%), 747 yards, 5 TDs, 6 int. … Receiving — Wyatt Hull 17-314, 3 TDs; Shifflett 12-179, 1 TD; Reuter 8-160, 1 TD; Galinanes 9-94.
