Chbg. roundup: Girls soccer drops tough one to East Penn

GIRLS SOCCER
East Pennsboro 2, Chambersburg 1: The Trojans simply couldn’t put enough goals on the scoreboard, despite dominating play, and dropped a non-league decision to the Panthers in Enola on Wednesday night.

Chambersburg scored first, about 15 minutes in, when Katy Weller took a corner kick, Bree Paetow deflected it and Mady Koons knocked in the goal.

East Pennsboro (16-2, ranked No. 5 in District 3 Class 3A) tied the game before halftime.

In the second half, the Trojans again pressed forward, but were caught by an EP counter attack and gave up the game-winner with about 25 minutes left.

“We pressed hard in the second half,” Chambersburg coach Paul Unruh said, “and created chance after chance. After they went ahead we again had more chances, but we were unable to find our way through.

“The effort was absolutely fantastic. It was the classic ‘good performance/unfortunate result’ scenario. Lilah Upham had the best game of her season, and has really matured as a player the past few weeks.”

The Trojans (9-6-1) started the day No. 14 in Class 4A, with the top 16 qualifying for the District 3 playoffs, so the loss puts them on the bubble.
