Boys Soccer: McConnellsburg 7, Southern Fulton 0: On October 10th, McConnellsburg Spartans (16-0, 8-0 ICC-E) hosted the Southern Fulton Indians in an Inter-County Conference (ICC) rematch, securing their eighth consecutive shutout and 13th of the season.
In the first half, in the 18th minute, with an assist from Grady Shives, Brayden Ramsey connected on a short shot for the opening goal. Two minutes later, two goals were scored. The first was by Jake Hann who headed in a goal off a Jackson Skiles corner after a deflection. The second goal started with an Indian back field throw in intercepted by Hoyt Glenn, who worked with Shives, and finished with a low shot around two defenders. With 19 minutes in the half, the fourth goal started with a half-field kick from keeper Reese Alexander to Glenn then lofted deep to right wing Ramsey. He caught up to it near the end line and kicked it hard left across the goal line to Gavin “Bird” DeShong who scored from the center. Glenn scored the fifth goal from a Skiles corner, giving the Spartans a 5-0 halftime lead.
Ten minutes into the second half, Shives, having received a pass from a Skiles backfield kick, dodged both the charging goalkeeper and a defender, and then short kicked it to score the team’s sixth goal. With twenty minutes remaining, Tucker Hedge passed to Shives, who finished with another short kick on goal, sealing the Spartan victory at 7-0.

Before the game, the senior Homecoming Court was introduced, with Zoe Mellott and Shaffer Earley being crowned Queen and King, respectively.
Up next: the Spartans will round out the regular season and host Mount Union (MU) on October 13th at 6 pm and Southern Huntingdon County on October 15th at 7:15 p.m. They defeated MU 7-1 on September 3rd.
With their Homecoming victory tonight, the boys clinched their ICC Division. They will play for the ICC Championship on October 18 at 6 pm, Opponent TBD, at Claysburg. District playoffs start the week of October 20.
GIRLS SOCCER: McConnellsburg 10, Southern Fulton 0.On October 10th, the McConnellsburg Lady Spartans (14-2, 11-1 ICC-S) hosted the Southern Fulton Lady Indians for an ICC rematch, and proceeded to dominate the game, and achieve their ninth shutout of the season to over 377 in attendance.
In the second minute of the first half, from a Serenity Rengifo corner kick mid-fielder Marin DeShong scored. Then nine minutes in, Gemma Gordon scored assisted on a DeShong pass. After 15 minutes, Margaret McKelvy scored on a pass from Rengifo. Three minutes later, Gordon scored the fourth goal on a DeShong assist. After 22 minutes, the ball was sent forward to a sprinting offensive player, who broke past the defense and scored. Four minutes to go, a short Indian keeper goal kick was intercepted by DeShong and taken for unassisted goal. In the last minute a goal was scored on a rebound off the Indian keeper mishandle of a previous shot on goal.
In the second half, four minutes into the second half, McKelvy passed to Rengifo who launched a shot to the upper end of the back net for the eighth goal. A ninth goal was scored after 25 minutes and the tenth and final at 12 minutes remaining.

Up next: the Lady Spartans round out the regular season at home versus Southern Huntington County, a cross-conference game October 15th at 5:15 pm and a cross-conference game on October 16th at 6 pm against Tussey Mountain (TM). The Spartans defeated TM 6-0 on September 2nd. The Spartans enter their next game with seven consecutive wins. They have won eight matches by more than two goals this season.
