GREENCASTLE — A punishing ground attack carried the Greencastle-Antrim football team to a much-needed football victory Friday night.

The Blue Devils handed Milton Hershey a 41-21 setback in a Mid Penn Colonial game at Kaley Field, halting a 3-game losing streak.

“The offense was really clicking tonight,” G-A coach Jason Thurston said. “We didn’t have to throw the ball much because the running game was working well. We had a few drives get shut down, but we recovered very well.”

Greencastle (2-5, 2-4 MPC) opened the game with a bang. On its first play, Gavin Logsdon took a lateral on a reverse and fired to pass to Wyatt Hull that covered 65 yards for a touchdown.

After Milton Hershey (1-6, 0-5 MPC) scored to take a 7-6 lead, the Blue Devils put together two drives that ended in touchdowns before the first quarter expired. Blake Reuter scored on a 4-yard run and Lane Barry threw to Hull for two points, and later in the period, Lars Galinanes crashed in from 3 yards out for a 21-7 lead.

The only scoring in the second quarter was by the Spartans, making it 21-14 at halftime.

Thurston said, “I thought we came out and played a really good second half. Their No. 1 quarterback didn’t play, but his backup was just as potent. We did a good job of tackling him in space. And the special teams played well, too.”

Galinanes scored on a 10-yard run in the third quarter, then Reuter opened the final period with a 1-yard scoring run to make it 34-14.

After Milton Hershey’s final touchdown, Galinanes busted a 48-yard run to the end zone to close the door.

Greencastle will travel to play at Juniata next Friday, 7 p.m.
