Chbg. roundup: Girls soccer trounces Little Lions

GIRLS SOCCER
Chambersburg 4, State College 1: The Trojans snapped a 3-game non-winning streak by dusting the Little Lions in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game at Trojan Stadium on Monday night.

Maddie Mills

“We were able to get a grip on the game and control the tempo,” Chambersburg coach Paul Unruh said. “We hope to take this same composed, confident style of play into our next game (next Tuesday at Carlisle).”

Bree Paetow notched a hat trick for the Trojans (6-5-1, 4-4-1 MPC) and Maddie Mills contributed a pair of assists.

Madi Koons scored 14 minutes into the game on an assist by Mills, and Paetow quickly doubled the lead after a Kadence Decker helper.

Five minutes into the second half, Mills crossed the ball to Paetow, who got her second goal and produced a 3-0 lead. The Little Lions scored on a long shot, but Katy Weller made a long run with the ball immediately after the goal, slipped a pass to Paetow and she delivered her third tally.

“We couldn’t seem to find our rhythm tonight,” Chambersburg coach Corey Grove said. “We did some good things, but made too many mistakes and didn’t create many quality chances.”

The Trojans are now 7-2-4 (5-2-2 MPC) and gave up more than 2 goals for the first time.

The Little Lions led in shots (13-10) and Chambersburg led in corner kicks (4-2). Trojan keeper Tyson Shanholtz made 5 saves.

Grove said, “They are a very good team with a good coach. They’re always well-organized. I thought Theo Deinboeck and Nate Folk played well for us in the middle. We have some much-needed time off before our next game to regroup.”
