GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Trojans place 7th: At the prestigious Carlisle Invitational on Saturday, Chambersburg had a top-10 finish, taking 7th with 270 points in the Challenge Division.
Natalie Quinn led the way for the Trojans by taking 17th place in a time of 18:55.0. Brook Boone was also in the top 35, taking 32nd in 19:31.7.
Other Chambersburg runners who scored included Lillian Spohn (44th in 19:48.1), Isabel Clark (100th in 21:10.1) and Kaylie Savage (102nd in 21:14.0).
Trojan coach Chris Monheim said, “The girls had maybe their best race of the season to get seventh in maybe the most competitive meet in the state. Quinn, Boone and Spohn all had personal bests, and Quinn is now one of only five Chambersburg girls to break 19:00 there.
“Isabel Clark ran a very strong race and had her highest finish of the season.”
In the Champions race, Julia Madison of Southern Fulton place 17th in 20:18.5.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Chambersburg takes 10th: The Trojans raced in the Challenge Division at the Carlisle Invitational and took 10th place on Saturday.
Chambersburg had 309 points. Julian Clark crossed the line in 15:56.7 for 16th place.
“Breaking 16 minutes is a good indication of Julian’s ability to medal in the postseason,” Trojan coach Jim Boyer said.
Also for the Trojans, Aiden Alleman took 49th (16:45.2), Boston Vincenti was 71st (17.05.8), Cole Lehman in 89th (17.17.7) and Tobias Willson was 115th (17:40.1).
Boyer said, “The boys showed up big in all 3 races (freshman, JV and varsity). They’re really sharpening well as we head into the October championship season.”
Shippensburg;’s Rylan Asper placed 17th in 15:57.0, Waynesboro’s Devin Barger was 85th in 17:16.9 and Logan Bohrer took 91st for Greencastle-Antrim in 17:18.9.
In the Champions Divison, James Buchanan’s Isaac Diehl took 29th in 17:19.2 and teammate Max Embree was 37thth in 17:41.6.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Wilson 3, Chambersburg 1: The Trojans had a great start against the unbeaten Bulldogs, taking game 1, 25-21, but Wilson won the next three to capture a non-league victory at CASHS Field House on Saturday morning.
The Bulldogs (14-0) won those sets, 25-16, 25-10 and 25-21.
“Wilson played a good match and we couldn’t get into any kind of rhythm,” Chambersburg coach Ty Frelin said. “They served very well against us, which kept us out of system most of the match. Against teams like this, you need to be at the top of your game and we weren’t today.”
Ava Zeigler chipped in 24 assists, 4 kills and 6 service points for the Trojans (6-6), who have dropped 4 of their last 5 matches. Kasey Moser had 10 digs, 8 kills and 3 blocks.
Nizaya Hawkins posted 6 points, 5 blocks and 4 kills, while Kaylie Stull came up with 6 points and 11 digs. Lexi Poe contributed 4 kills and 10 digs and Olivia Shearer had 4 kills.
