Trojans place 4th at PTXC: Chambersburg competed in the PennTrack XC Invitational on Saturday at Kutztown University and captured fourth place in the team standings.
Perkiomen Valley won the meet with 56 points, followed by Xavier, Manheim Township and Chambersburg (110 points).
Trojan coach Jim Boyer said, “The runners battled a course with more hills in the second half of it and humid conditions. I was pleased to see our guys form some packs and stay together throughout the race.
“We have to work at closing the almost two-minute time spread between our first and fifth runner.”
Julian Clark had a fine day for Chambersburg, taking second place with a time of 16:25.7 over the 5,000-meter course. He trailed only Kyle Tracy of Perk Valley (16:18.2).
Boyer said, “Julian had a breakthrough race. He ran a smart middle mile and worked up into the first or second place for the second half of the race.”
Aiden Alleman took 19th in 17:28.5 to earn a medal. Also scoring were Cole Lehman (28th, 17:44.89), Boston Vincenti (31st, 17:49.8) and Aaron Goshorn (40th, 18:12.8), while Aden Goshorn (50th, 18:31.38) and Tobias Willson (60th, 18:47.38) were also in the top seven on the team.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Chambersburg team takes 5th: In a crowded field at the top of the team standings, the Trojans ended up in 5th place with 181 points in the PennTrack XC Invitational at Kutztown U., following Manheim Twp. (119), Gwynedd-Mercy (119), Cathedral Prep (123) and Dallastown (138).
“It was a high quality field and we beat some traditional powers, so I was pleased with our fifth-place finish,” Chambersburg coach Chris Monheim said.
The Trojans’ Natalie Quinn came in 14th, posting a time of 20:10.6 over the 5,000-meter course. The rest of the team’s scorers were Brook Boone (26th, 20:58.9), Lillian Spohn (29th, 21:02.7), Arrabelle Rife (55th, 22:08,1) and Kaylie Savage (59th, 22:22.3).

Monheim said, “Natalie ran a smart race and moved up almost 10 places between the mile and finish. The other (top 5 girls) completed our scoring and kept the time gaps respectable.”
BOYS SOCCER
Trojans win York Suburban Tournament: Chambersburg’s defense was stingy again, enabling the Trojans to tie Cocalico 0-0 (won in penalty kicks) and defeat Schuylkill Valley 2-1 to capture first place at the York Suburban Tournament.
After a scoreless first game vs. the Eagles, Chambersburg won in a penalty kick shootout as goalkeeper Tyson Shanholtz came up with saves on 3 of Cocalico’s shots.
In the championship game, Chambersburg (3-0-3) got goals from Noah Brena on a free kick and Nate Folk unassisted to offset the first goal scored by a Trojan opponent this season. Schuylkill Valley is 5-2.
“You could tell our legs were a bit fatigued after having played two overtimes just two hours earlier,” Trojan coach Corey Grove said. “But we were able to get away with a result. Their goal was on a suspect PK call, but we had to play through it. Performance overall wasn’t great, but we found a way to win.”
Shanholtz made 4 saves vs. Cocalico as the unbeaten Eagles (3-0-2) out-shot the Trojans 12-10 and had 10 corner kicks to 2 for the Trojans.
“Both teams were undefeated and it was a battle from the start,” Grove said.
