The Shippensburg Area Senior High School Hall of Fame Committee takes great pride in announcing the class of 2025. The inductees are as follows:
Ray Staver (Class of 1976)
A former Greyhound player himself, Coach Ray Staver won 445 games in his 30 years on the bench as the head coach of the boys’ program at SASHS. His teams won 19 playoff games, reached the District III title game twice, and recorded four state playoff victories, reaching the PIAA Elite 8 in 2022. Coach Staver’s dedication to the basketball program along with his three decades in the classroom left an indelible mark on countless athletes and students at Shippensburg High School.
Katie (Finkey) Baum (Class of 2003)
Katie (Finkey) Baum was one of the most dominant softball pitchers in the mid-state during the early 2000s. As a senior, she led the Greyhounds to the District III AA title in 2003 and was also named Public Opinion Player of the Year and Patriot-News Big 11 that season. During her years on the mound, she struck out 455 batters, earned 46 wins, and kept opposing offenses off the scoreboard with an impressive career ERA of .65.
Cary Hess (Class of 2013)
Cary Hess excelled on both the football field and wrestling mat for the Greyhounds. During his senior wrestling season, Hess was a frequent figure on the medal stand, earning 4th in Districts and placing 7th at the PIAA Tournament in Hershey. Hess was victorious in 106 bouts as a Greyhound. On the gridiron, he was a standout offensive lineman and was named to the 2013 PA Scholastic Football Coaches East/West All-Star game and to the Patriot-News Big 15 2nd Team. Hess continued his football career at Bucknell University, where he started every game his junior and senior seasons.
