NEWVILLE-Greencastle pounded out 13 hits to defeat Shippensburg in four innings, 13-2, to open Pool Play of the 11/12 International Tournament.
Shippensburg was the first to get on the board in the first inning when John Diehl hit a solo home run to right field giving Shippensburg a 1-0 lead.
Greencastle captured the lead, 4-1, in the bottom of the first after Brinx Bonillas doubled to center field, Ethan Allen singled to left field, Brady Swain singled to center field, and Ryan Cordell grounded out, each scoring one run.
Greencastle added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Greer Barkdoll walked, Bonillas doubled to center field, Allen doubled down the left field line, Shippensburg dropped a third strike, and Cordell singled to center field, each scoring one run.
A ground out by Greer extended the Greencastle lead to 10-2 in the bottom of the third inning. Greencastle scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to end the game with the 10-run rule.
Grayson Booher earned the win for Greencastle. The starter gave up three hits and two runs over three and one-third innings, striking out five and did not walk a batter.
Greencastle amassed 13 hits in the game. Brady Swain, Brinx Bonillas, and Ethan Allen each collected two hits for Greencastle. Swain, Bonillas, and Cordell each drove in two runs for Greencastle. Greencastle did not commit an error.
Greencastle will play Newville Saturday at 11:00 a.m., but the game will not be broadcast. The next game broadcast on Mid Penn Broadcasting will be Monday, when Greencastle plays Newville at 7:00 p.m.
