Paul Hendershot’s Clutch Hitting Propels Southern Fulton To D5 Gold Over Rockwood

Jr, Paul Hendershot drove in five runs on two hits to lead Southern Fulton past Rockwood 13-0 on Wednesday at Claysburg-Kimmel High School. The victory secured the Indians 4th PIAA District 5 title in the last 5 yrs.  Hendershot singled in the second scoring two, singled in the fourth scoring two, and walked in the third scoring one.

Southern Fulton (21-1) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Jett Burger was struck by a pitch, and Mark Fitz grounded into a double play, each scoring one run.
The Indians extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI singles by Brooks Norris and Hendershot.

Southern Fulton blew the game open with five runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning. Kaiden Schriever singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Hendershot drew a walk, scoring one run, and Burger singled, scoring two runs.

Owen Oakman earned the win for Southern Fulton. The starter surrendered four hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out five and walking one. Davis Bruening took the loss for Rockwood Rockets. The hurler went three innings, giving up 12 runs (six earned) on nine hits, striking out four and walking four. Hendershot pitched one inning of no-run ball for Southern Fulton in relief. The reliever allowed zero hits, striking out none and walking one.

Southern Fulton piled up 10 hits in the game. Joel Fitz led Southern Fulton Indians with three hits in four at bats from the leadoff position. Schriever collected two hits for Southern Fulton in two at bats. Colt Mann led Southern Fulton Indians with three walks. 

Southern Fulton enters the PIAA state playoffs on Monday, 2 June and will host the District 6-2 seed at 4:30pm.
