Chambersburg 16, Mercersburg Academy 13: The Trojans defeated the Storm in a back-and-forth non-league contest at Trojan Stadium on Thursday evening to set a program record for wins in a season with 7.
Chambersburg is 7-10 with one game left on the schedule.
“This was an absolutely crazy game ,” Trojan coach Shane Henry said. “The team really wanted to win it for the seniors. Most of the seniors have been in the program for four years and haven’t felt the feeling of being on a team like this and winning games. They were really emotional at the end of the game.
“It was a very physical game. There were so many yellow cards given that the other team were down to two players on defense.”
The Trojans, who had never defeated Mercersburg before, were tied after the first quarter and at halftime, but led 13-11 after three periods.
Henry said, “Reagan Barrett needed four points to reach 100 for her career and she went absolutely rogue, with 8 goals and an assist. Addy Flack marked up their Division I recruit and held her to three goals. She played phenomenal and really shut her down.”
Adele Henry scored 3 goals and had 2 assists, McKenna Myers had 2 goals and an assist, Brynn Sekel contributed 2 goals, 2 assists and 7 draw controls, Mollie Yardley-Gontz had a goal, 2 draws and a groundball and Reese Heverley made 9 saves.
“This team is special and they know they did something that no team has ever done in program history,” coach Henry said.
