McConnellsburg Hits Big Over Forbes Road in Double Header Wins

Hall’s Big Day Propels the Spartans

Waterfall, PA.  The Spartans visited the Forbes Road Cardinals for double header conference games on Tuesday and took both in resounding manner.  

Senior second baseman Kohen Hall drove in five runs on four hits to lead the Spartans past the Forbes Road Cardinals 13-2.  Hall went four-for-four on the day; singled in the second scoring two, singled in the third scoring two, and singled in the first scoring one.

The Spartans opened the scoring in the top with two runs from two singles.  Hall singled, scoring one run, from Reese Alexander who walked, and Kade Gress singled to center, scoring Hall.

The Spartans scored five runs on three hits in the top of the second inning. An error scored one run; Alexander singled, scoring one run; Hall singled, scoring two runs; and Gress doubled, scoring one run. Those crossing home plate included Tucker Hedge, Jace Fletcher, Hoyt Glenn, Ben Sattazahn, and Alexander.

The Spartans scored five runs on four hits in the top of the third inning.  Sattazahn doubled, scoring two runs, Hall singled, scoring two runs, and Gress doubled, scoring one run. Crossing home plate included Badalamenti, Glenn, Sattazahn, Alexander, and Hall.

Kason Harrell opened the game and took the win for the Spartans. The freshman righty allowed five hits and two runs over five innings, striking out five and walking two. 

Camden Lupey led things off on the bump for the Cardinals. He took the loss having surrendered 12 hits and 13 runs (11 earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking six.

The Spartans had 12 hits, with Gress and Hall a force together in the lineup as they each had four hits with Gress contributing four RBIs. Glenn collected two hits in three at bats. Hedge led with two walks drawn. The team showed great discipline, earning six walks. Alexander stole two bases. The Spartans played error-free defense.

Mikey Strait and Sawyer Hollibaugh each had two hits and an RBI for Forbes Road, making them a formidable duo in the lineup.

Game 2

Glenn Puts On Strong Contact Performance 

Waterfall, PA.  The Spartans took the second double header game as sophomore shortstop Hoyt Glenn had three hits in three at bats to propel the team over the Cardinals in an 11-0 shutout, on Tuesday.   Glenn doubled in the second inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the fifth inning.

A single by Kohen Hall put the Spartans on the board in the bottom of the first scoring Reese Alexander and Glenn.  The Spartans extended their early lead with two runs in the bottom of the third from RBI singles by Hall and Tucker Hedge to score Alexander and Hall.  In the next inning Glenn singled scoring Jace Fletcher.

The Spartans scored big in the fifth inning with six runs.  Gavin DeShong singled, scoring one run, Hedge singled, scoring one run, Glenn singled, scoring one run, Ben Sattazahn doubled, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run. Crossing the plate included Gress, Gavin DeShong, Hedge, Vinny Badalamenti, Glenn, and Sattazahn. 

Finn Kuhn took the mound and the win for the Spartans. The freshman starter tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched striking out three and walking none. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn’t given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

Mikey Strait stepped on the bump first for Forbes Road. The pitcher gave up 12 hits and 10 runs over four and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking three. Peyton Taylor pitched under one-third inning in relief, he allowed one run on one hit. 

Spartans piled up 13 hits in the game. Hall drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Spartans with three runs batted in and went 2-for-3 in the game. Hedge and Gress each collected multiple hits. Hedge, Alexander, Glenn, DeShong, and Jace Fletcher each stole multiple bases, totaling 10 bases during the game.  Glenn was prominent on offense, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Hedge performed well going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.  The Spartans posted a batting average of .500, besting their previous high set in April of 2024.

Camden Lupey and Taylor were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Forbes Road while hitting back-to-back.

Next up:  McConnellsburg (9-4, 3-2 ICC-S) travels to Everett for a conference game on Thursday starting at 4:30 PM.
