BASEBALL
Bermudian Springs 2, Greencastle-Antrim 1: The Blue Devils’ first batter got a hit and eventually scored, but the was extent of G-A’s offense in a non-league loss to the Eagles on Friday afternoon at home.
Leadoff batter Andrew Weaver singled and moved to third when the ball was booted in the outfield. Elvin Robles then hit a fielder’s choice grounder to score Weaver.
But Greencastle (2-2) did not have any more hits and some excellent defense by Bermudian Springs (5-1) kept it off the board.
“We’ve had a total of three hits in out last two games,” G-A coach Eric Shaner said. “Our pitching has been decent, but we have to score more runs.
“We took too long to adjust to their pitching, and then they made all of those plays. We had two runners on in one inning and hit one down the right field line that we were sure would drop, but they caught. We had two other runners on and hit a shot into left-center, but the guy laid out and caught it. And Bo Brookens hit one deep in the 5-hole and their shortstop threw him out.”
Avery Horst gave up 4 hits and 2 earned runs in 4 innings to take the loss. Ben Horst threw 2 innings and Manny Brookens tossed one.
