The Spartans visited the Windber Ramblers in a cross-conference game on March 28th. A walk-off left the Spartans on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat to Windber. The game was tied at five in the bottom of the seventh when Dylan Woodruff singled, scoring the winning run.
The game saw several lead changes. Windber’s Lucas Oleska started with a solo home run in the first inning. Tucker Hedge hit a double in the top of the second, giving the Spartans a 2-1 lead by scoring Kohen Hall and Gavin DeShong. Windber’s Dylan O’Roark’s sacrifice fly tied it at two in the fourth. Ben Sattazahn’s solo home run in the fifth put the Spartans ahead 3-2. In the fifth inning, Windber took the lead as Oleska’s single and Nathan Betcher’s double each brought in a run. The Spartans led 5-4 in the sixth after Earley’s double scored Hedge and Jace Fletcher.
With one out in the seventh inning, Oleska walked. Rummel’s double tied the game by scoring Oleska. After a second out, with hope at peak embrace, Woodruff’s single scored the winning run ending the chance for extra innings.
Kade Gress started on the mound for the Spartans. The south-paw pitcher allowed eight hits and four runs over five innings, striking out six and walking three. Ben Sattazahn provided relief pitching for one and two-thirds innings and was charged with the loss for the Spartans. The right-handed pitcher gave up two runs on two hits, striking out one and walking two.
Lucas Rummel opened the game for Windber. The starting pitcher gave up eight hits and four runs over five innings, striking out five and walking three. Dylan Himes provided additional relief for one third of an inning, yielding one run on two hits, striking out one and walking one. Dylan O’Roark secured the win for Windber as the final reliever. He allowed zero hits and zero runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking one.
The Spartans amassed 10 hits in the game. Shafer Earley and Gavin DeShong each got two hits. Earley and Hedge each drove in two runs.
