BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Chambersburg 3, Trinity 1: The Trojans opened their boys volleyball season with a non-league victory over the Shamrocks on the road Monday evening.
Chambersburg got the upper hand by winning the first two games, both 25-19. Trinity came back for a 25-23 win in the third, but the Trojans finished them off with a tight win in Game 4, 27-25.
Joe Allison led in kills with 10 and Yazaan Safi (9) and Ben Etter (7) were not far behind. Also at the net, Safi and Clayton Thompson each had 3 block kills.
Etter and Luke Dortenzo each came up with 3 aces, while Ben Stahl contributed 13 digs.
BOYS LACROSSE
Cumberland Valley 21, Chambersburg 2: The Trojans got off to rough start against powerful Mid Penn Commonwealth foe the Eagles in their season opener Monday night at Trojan Stadium.
The Chambersburg defense stood strong in the first quarter — despite CV having the ball much of the time, the Eagles led only 2-1 at the end of the period.
But Cumberland Valley got it going in the second period, scoring 11 times to forge a 13-1 halftime lead.
“Ultimately, spending that much time on defense proved to be unsustainable,” Trojan coach Joey Wilmot said.
Ryan Cosey scored Chambersburg in the first quarter, while defender Conner Munson scored the second goal, which the first of his career.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Cumberland Valley 17, Chambersburg 1: The Trojans opened their season on the road against a tough Mid Penn Commonwealth opponent and suffered a defeat.
Brynn Sekel scored Chambersburg’s lone goal and she also led the Trojans with 6 of their 10 draw controls.
Chambersburg goalie Reese Heverley came up with 9 saves.
