LEWISBURG — The Chambersburg boys swim team added onto its recent run of success on Saturday at the PIAA Class 3A Swimming and Diving Championships at Bucknell University.
The Trojans pushed one relay team and one individual into the A final races and one more into a B final to score enough points (86) to finish in seventh place in the team standings — the program’s highest-ever team finish.
“Anthony Addlesberger, the club coach and our assistant coach, does an amazing job getting these boys ready and primed to go,” Chambersburg coach Chad White said. “It was really cool to see all five of the swimmers (who qualified for states) get a state medal.”
It was the second straight year Chambersburg finished in the top 10 — it was 12th in 2023 and tied for eighth last year with 73 points. Plus, all five swimmers at states this year are underclassmen.
The highlight of the day came in the final event, the 400 freestyle relay. The Trojans qualified 5th in the prelims with a time of 3:08.32, and in the A final the team of Alex Kaczmark, Amir Tasker, Ethan White and Cullen McGraw produced a time of 3:07.72 to cop fifth place.
Coach White said, “The 400 free relay was such a great way to end the amazing day we had. Fifth place in a relay was our highest relay finish (at states) since the late 1990’s.”
McGraw put up the other outstanding race. In the prelims of the 500 freestyle, the sophomore shaved about 7 seconds off his previous best, flashing to a time of 4:33.77, which was 8th-best and got him into the A final. In that race, he timed out at 4:39.36 to place eighth.
“Cullen’s prelim swim may have been the swim of the meet for us,” White said. “He had a huge drop to make it into the A final and earn his first state medal.”
Tasker swam in the 100 freestyle, hitting 46.13 in the prelims for the 11th-best time, putting him in the B final race. There, he dropped to a time of 45.83 and earned 11th place.
Trojan junior Cristian Pong swam in the 100 backstroke. In the prelims, Pong, seeded 24th, swam a time of 52.75 to finish in 22nd place.

Diver Keagan Myers helped the team’s point total by placing 13th in the diving finals. Myers came in seeded 19th, but scored 396.25 points, nearly 20 better than his previous best total.
Chambersburg diving coach Heather Brindle said, “This was Keagan’s first time making states and he dove the best meet of his life. I was very proud of Keagan as he kept his composure through all the pressure. His forward 2 1/2 tuck and reverse 1 1/2 tuck earned him over 40 points each.”
White said, “Keagan set the tone going into tonight and we kept going from there. Alex had a big PR leading off the relay this morning and Ethan had his best 100 split by about .6 seconds.”
North Allegheny won the boys title with 215 points. Chambersburg was highest team from District 3.
Waynesboro senior Eve Phillips had her second high finish of the weekend, taking third place in the 100 freestyle in a time of 50.87. She bettered her prelim time of 51.41, which was also the third-best time. The Mount St. Mary’s recruit came seeded No. 8.
For the Chambersburg girls, junior Margot Ritchie had a very good day swimming in the 100 backstroke, producing a pair of team records for the event. In the morning prelims, Ritchie hit a time of 56.97, which was the 10th-best time.
That put her in the B final, where Ritchie posted a time of 56.61, second-best in that heat, and that gave her 10th place. It was almost a full second better than her seed time.
