NEW KINGSTOWN — Franklin County swimmers had a pretty successful Day 1 at the District 3 Swimming Championships — taking one first, a pair of seconds and two thirds.
Chambersburg’s boys team, the defending team champion, is in position to take a run at first place on Day 2, Saturday at Cumberland Valley H.S.
Waynesboro’s Eve Phillips was the area’s only winner Friday. She touched the wall first in the girls 50 freestyle in a time of 23.49.

Chambersburg coach Hali Cormany said, “We started off with a best time in the medley relay, and we beat the team record of 1:52.97 from 2015. The 200 free relay also moved up to fifth on our list with some of the best splits we’ve had all year.
“Audrey had a very strong 100 fly, which moved her up from 23rd (seed) to 15th while winning her heat in a personal-best time.”
The Trojans were 8th in the team standings with 61 points, right ahead of Waynesboro (55).
The Maidens produced a 7th in the 200 free relay, with Ruth Phillips, Rylie Tritle, Eve Phillips and Mady Barker recording a time of 1:40.34.
