McConnellsburg Defeats Williamsburg

McConnellsburg 54, Williamsburg 40.  The Spartans visited Williamsburg Blue Pirates on Wednesday, January 29th for a cross-conference game and secured their 14th consecutive victory with a strong 20-point third quarter.

In the first quarter, the Spartans moved out to a 9-2 lead in the first 2-1/2 minutes. The Pirates lost starting center Ty Uplinger early due to an ankle injury. The quarter ended with the Spartans leading 13-10. In the second quarter, the Spartans established a ten-point lead with 3 and ½ minutes remaining. The Pirates managed to close the gap to five by halftime, with the score at 24-19 in favor of the Spartans.

In the third quarter, the Pirates narrowed the gap to one point (27-26) within the first two minutes. Brayden Ramsey then hit one of his three three-pointers to extend the lead to 30-27. The Spartan lead increased to 11 points with contributions from Cohen Hall, who scored seven points this quarter. The Spartans outscored the Pirates 20 to 7, ending the quarter with a 44-26 lead.

In the final quarter, the Spartans’ Dom Jefferson hit two-3s to get a 20-point lead, the largest of the night, with six minutes to go.  But the Pirates continued to charge and were able to outscore by some (14 to 10) but fell short with the final score Spartans victorious 54-40.  The boys had also avenged the girls’ loss earlier in the week.

The Spartans (15-1 overall, 5-0 ICC South) put three into double scoring figures with Dom Jefferson 13 points, Hoyt Glenn 12 points, and Brayden Ramsey 11 points.
