Chambersburg roundup: Swim teams fall to Hershey

Hershey 103, Chambersburg 82: The Trojans earned victories in 5 events, but was defeated by a strong Hershey team in a Mid Penn Commonwealth meet Tuesday afternoon on the road.

“I’m really proud of how we swam today,” Chambersburg coach Hali Cormany said. “Hershey is a legendary team and we were able to win some events and keep pace with them for much of the meet.”

Margot Ritchie had a big day for the Trojans (6-3, 2-3 MPC), taking first place in the 200 IM in 2:14.58 and in the 100 freestyle in 55.27. She also swam the anchor leg on the winning 400 free relay team that included Calla Hoffman, Lily Evans and Audrey Keller.

Hoffman also picked up two individual wins, taking first in the 200 free (2:04.18)and the 100 backstroke (1:00.76).

Cormany said, “Brooke Reichelderfer sawm a personal best in the 500 free today and Ava Grove had a PR in the breaststroke. The girls are working hard preparing for the postseason.”

BOYS SWIMMING
Hershey 109, Chambersburg 77: The Trojans produced some strong swims Tuesday afternoon, but it wasn’t quite enough to prevent a Mid Penn Commonwealth defeat against Hershey in a road meet.

Chambersburg coach Chad White said, “We didn’t get the end result of a win, but put up a really good fight that will suit us well as we head into the championship season. We got in some really solid racing about a week before the Mid Penn championships.”

Alex Kaczmark was able to come up with two individual wins, in the 200 freestyle (1:45.85) and in the 100 butterfly (52.48). He also led off the winning 400 free relay team (3:26.21) that also included Cullen McGraw, Ethan White and Amir Tasker.

Tasker burned to a win in the 50 free in 21.70 and took the 100 free in 49.73. Also gaining victories for the Trojans (7-2, 3-2 MPC) were Ethan White in the 500 free (4:51.90) and McGraw in the 100 backstroke (55.14).

Coach White said, “Alex swam a smart 200 free that will seed him high in the championship meets. Cullen raced really well in all of his events. Ethan stayed with Luke (Tinsly) the first 400 and was able to finish really well. Amir’s 50 win had an explosive start and a strong finish.

“Brian Sulcove had several personal best drops and Kahne Smith broke 26 for the first time in the 50.”
