Chambersburg roundup: Swim teams swamp Thundering Herd

Chambersburg 100, Carlisle 69: The Trojans won 8 events, including 2 of the 3 relay events, to hand the Thundering Herd a Mid Penn Commonwealth defeat on the road Tuesday evening.

Chambersburg coach Hali Cormany said, “I’m super proud of this team tonight. We were able to win most of the events, but those 3rd, 4th and 5th places really pulled us through tonight. And we were able to get some good times to set us up for Mid Penns.”

The Trojans (6-2, 2-2 MPC) came up with a pair of double winners. Margot Ritchie flashed first in the 200 freestyle in 2:00.65 and in the 100 freestyle in 56.12. Audrey Keller finished first in the 200 IM in 2:21.89 and in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.36.

Calla Hoffman put up a time of 1:01.89 to win the backstroke event, while teammate Ava Grove took the breaststroke in 1:14.28.

The winners of the 200 medley relay were Hoffman, Ritchie, Keller and Lilly Evans (1:58.29), and the team that won the 200 freestyle relay was composed of Hoffman, Evans, Keller and Ritchie (1:48.95).

Chambersburg 113, Carlisle 44: The Herd earned first place in only 2 events as the Trojans hammered out a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory in Carlisle on Tuesday evening.

Chambersburg (7-1, 3-1 MPC) spread the scoring around. Alex Kaczmark was the only swimmer to win 2 individual events, hitting the wall first in the 200 freestyle (1:47.32) and the backstroke (59.64).

Also collecting wins were Amir Tasker in the 200 IM (2:04.26), Cullen McGraw in the 50 free (23.61), Cristian Pong in the butterfly (51.35), Xavier Covington in the 500 free (5:40.33) and Ethan White in the breaststroke (1:05.10).

The Trojans also earned wins in the 200 medley relay, with Covington, White, Pong and Tasker finishing in 1:42.95, and the 200 free relay, with Thomas McCullough, Nolan Diehl, White and Tasker posting a time of 1:37.36.

“Everyone contributed tonight,” Chambersburg coach Chad White said. “This was our second-to-last time racing in yards before the Mid Penns. We were looking to see some drops from boys that are close to qualifying. (McCullough) swam two good times today that should get him in.”
