19-0 third quarter carries Blazers to win

The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers shut out New Life Christian in the third quarter and rolled to a 49-22 victory Tuesday in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference boys basketball game.

The Blazers (3-10, 2-3 MDCC) led 17-14 at the end of a turnover-filled first half but expanded the margin to 36-14 by outscoring New Life 19-0 in the third period.

“I was very happy with the effort and energy we brought,” Blazers coach Austin Sanders said. “This was a much-needed league win for us as we had dropped the last two. I was pleased with the defensive effort we showed as a team, and I hope we can carry this momentum moving forward.”

Zach Mace scored 17 points to lead the Blazers in scoring. Nathan Minnier added 16, including nine during the third quarter, and led the team in assists with four and blocked shots with five. He also contributed eight rebounds and three steals.

Also, Archer Munson was relentless on defense and led the team with 11 rebounds. Gage Brookens supplied seven points and a team-high five steals, Dylan Grove scored three points, and A.J. Sloan added two points.

On Thursday, the Blazers dropped a 42-40 non-league decision to Heritage Christian Academy of Mechanicsburg.
