Blazers fall to Mt. Airy, 48-36

The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers could not withstand a 34-point night from Mt. Airy Christian’s Joey Stanton and dropped a 48-36 decision Thursday evening in a non-league boys basketball game.

Stanton had 20 points by halftime as Mt. Airy built a 26-14 lead, which expanded to 38-25 at the end of the third quarter. The Blazers trimmed the margin to 40-34 in the fourth before Mt. Airy pulled away.

“We had a slow start and just really struggled to score tonight,” Blazers coach Austin Sanders said. “Our defense is in a really good spot, but we just have to find ways to put the ball in the basket and take advantage of the quality looks we get. We’ll take this time over break to iron out some details and work on shot-making for sure.”

Zach Mace supplied 12 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Blazers (2-6). He also tied for the team-high in steals with three. Nathan Minnier added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Also for the Blazers, Gage Brookens had seven points and three steals, Turner Egolf scored six points, and Archer Munson pulled down eight rebounds.
