NEFFSVILLE — Manheim Township lived up to its No. 2 seed status as the District 3 Class 4A girls soccer playoffs began Tuesday afternoon.
The Blue Streaks hosted the No. 15 seed, Chambersburg, and eliminated the Trojans with a 3-0 victory.
The Trojans finished 7-9-2, while Manheim Township (15-2) advances to the quarterfinals to host the winner of No. 7 Governor Mifflin (14-2-1) and No. 10 Wilson (13-4-1) on Saturday.
“We did not back off at any point, and actually grew into the game,” Trojan coach Paul Unruh said. “So I’m not only proud of today’s performance, I’m also thrilled to see the growth of the team to get us into the district playoffs.
“I had a really enjoyable season and I’m already looking forward to next year.”
The Blue Streaks took a 1-0 lead into halftime by scoring in the 15th minute. They added another pair of goals in the second half.
Unruh said, “Manheim Township really made us work with their lateral ball movement and incisive passing. They created well-deserved chances and were able finish them.”
