CHAMBERSBURG AT CARLISLE
Game data: Trojans (2-4, 1-4 MPC) at Thundering Herd (0-6, 0-5 MPC) … Mid Penn Commonwealth game … Live stream available on MidPennBroadcasting.com.
Last week: Chambersburg picked up its first league victory by surprising Cedar Cliff, 38-13 … Trojans shut the Colts out after halftime … Carlisle was trounced by Harrisburg, 42-0.
The opponent: The Herd has allowed 39.3 points per game and scored just 4.2 per game, and their closest game was a 21-12 defeat to CD East … Carlisle’s biggest threat on offense is running back Chanse Bonner … Carter Wilson is an athletic quarterback and his top receiver is Bryson Randolph … Last week vs. Harrisburg, the Herd was held to fewer than 100 yards of offense, while the Cougars piled up well over 100 yards in penalties, with 23 flags.
Coach’s view: “The key is to contain (Wilson) and keep him in the pocket,” Chambersburg coach Mark Luther said. “The have a good back (Bonner) and they’ll want to run the ball 25-30 times. We need to slow down the running game because their offense has struggled in every game except CD East. Carlisle’s defense has played well at times. They play a 4-4 and will have eight players up near the line to try to force us to throw. We watched the film of our game last week and we did some good things. But we haven’t done those things consistently, so can we repeat that this week? That’s what I’m hoping for.”
Unsung: Chambersburg got a good game from QB Ceagan Truett, who hit 11 of 14 passes for 191 yards and 2 TDs … But the ground game also put up 102 yards, with Imani Watson going 7-54 and Antonio Harrison 10-46 … Luther said, “Ceagan is settling in and doing better at staying in the pocket, but last week our running game took off a little. The backs made some things happen and the line blocked well.”
Statistics: Passing — Truett 50-for-99, 563 yards, 3 TDs, 6 int. … Rushing — Watson 47-233, 2 TDs; Harrison 52-178, 2 TDs … Receiving — Trever Luther 22-271; Evan Brown 6-106, 1 TD … Tackles — Stanley Lozius 65 tackles, 3 sacks, 4 tackles for loss; Dylan Panfili 56 tackles … Kicking — T.Luther 3-for-4 FGs; 11-for-11 PATs … The Trojans have been outgained so far, 2,004 to 1,040.
GREENCASTLE-ANTRIM AT MILTON HERSHEY
Game data: Blue Devils (1-5, 1-4 MPC) at Spartans (2-4, 2-2 MPC) at Milton Hershey Stadium on campus … Mid Penn Colonial game … Live stream available on MidPennBroadcasting.com.
Last week: Greencastle was handled 42-13 by Trinity … Milton Hershey was beaten 20-18 by Newport.
The opponent: The Spartans have allowed 23.8 points per game and scored 16.3 … Their 2 wins came over Big Spring and Middletown … Elijah Hopkins is the quarterback and he’s thrown for 592 yards (54-for-84) with 4 TDs and 3 int. … Top running backs are Kah’dyn Gann-Luckett (66-451, 1 TD) and Lex Morales-Menzon (58-265, 4 TDs … Parris Blackston has caught 23 passes for 366 yards and Gann-Luckett has 15 catches for 136 yards and 3 scores.
Coach’s view: G-A coach Devin McCauley said, “We follow them on the schedule so we’ve seen all their games on film, and they are a good team. They have good athletes and a couple of 300-pound linemen who can move. I was surprised they lost to Newport last week until I saw the film — they played in the mud and it was a slop-fest that slowed down their athletes. They run the ball extremely well and that’s not been our strength. They run that buck sweep and then hit you with a screen pass. We will have to run the ball ourselves, get first downs and shorten the game.”
Unsung: Seth Kielek had to fill in at inside linebacker after an injury and made the best of it. McCauley said, “It’s not easy going from cornerback to inside linebacker. It’s a big change, but he ended up with 10 tackles and scored a touchdown on offense. Mason Gelsinger also did well — we had to move Carter (McCauley) from safety to outside linebacker and Gelsinger moved into safety and played well.”
Statistics: Passing — Sean Marshall 54-for-102, 708 yards, 6 TDs, 8 int. … Rushing — Blake Reuter 43-206, 1 TD; Lars Galinanes 42-146, 1 TD … Receiving — Carter McCauley 36-468, 5 TDs … Tackles — C.McCauley 41, 3 sacks, 7 tackles for loss; Noah Shifflett 33, 1 int.; JD Flynn 6 tackles for loss.
