Trinity smothers Blue Devils in dominating 1st half

GRENCASTLE — It was 21-0 before the fans got settled in their seats.

And it didn’t get a whole lot better for the Greencastle-Antrim football team Friday night, despite the school inducting its first class of Athletic Hall of Fame members.

Trinity totally dominated the first half, taking a 35-0 lead and putting the mercy rule in place for the second half. It ended up 42-13 Friday night at Kaley Field.

“I could tell the kids were gonna be flat,” G-A coach Devin McCauley said. “We didn’t have school today, which changed their routines, and we just didn’t have it.”

The Shamrocks (5-1, 4-0 MPC) scored five touchdowns in the first half — one came on a 34-yard interception return and another when they recovered their own fumble in the end zone.

“Once they got started, it was like an avalanche,” McCauley said. “It was 21-0 so fast. We ran only 17 plays in the first half and had one first down. We couldn’t run the football effectively and we didn’t execute in the passing game.”

In the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils (1-5, 1-4 MPC) did score a pair of touchdowns. Seth Kielek ran the ball in from 9 yards out for the first touchdown and on the second, QB Barry Lane found Angelini Domino with a 29-yard scoring pass.

McCauley said, “I challenged them to not quit in the second half, and at least we played with better energy.”

The Blue Devils’ injury woes continued — FB/LB Lars Galinanes left the game in the second half.

“We had to move a cornerback to play inside linebacker,” McCauley said.
