G-A roundup: Blue Devils capture title in volleyball tournament

Greencastle-Antrim wins tourney: The Blue Devils rolled through the Manheim Central Tournament on Saturday, going undefeated to reach the championship match.

There, they faced off with Chambersburg, which had handed G-A its only loss in a recent regular-season match.

But this time, the Blue Devils prevailed, 1-0, with a score of 25-22, to bring home the hardware for the third straight year at Manheim.

“The girls came out strong, winning all of their pool play matches to go 8-0,” G-A coach Madee Goodwin said.

Greencastle beat Ephrata 25-16 in the semifinals.

Kylie Kerns produced 41 assists, 22 kills and 30 digs, Alaina Garling put up 33 assists, 10 kills and 15 digs, and Abby Eagler knocked down 32 kills, had 32 digs and added 7 aces.

Also for the Blue Devils, Wren Roberts had 12 kills and 26 digs, Emma Pool had 11 kills and 5 blocks and Jordyn Wagner added 9 kills and 6 blocks.

Greencastle goes 0-2 in tournament: The Blue Devils competed in the Bubbler Tournament at Boiling Springs and had defeats to the host team (8-0) and to East Pennsboro (2-1) in the consolation game.

G-A coach Keara Allshouse said, “We truly turned it around this weekend. We had two starters injured, so Serenity Goodman and Emily Fowler stepped up and did a fantastic job. Our goalie, Rebecca Jones, had an amazing save on a penalty stroke in the first game.”

Against East Penn, Fowler had the assist on a goal by Aiyanna Gonyea for Greencastle (2-7). Goodman and Brooklyn Baxter each made a defensive save, Jones had 21 saves for the day and Kathryn Bream had 5 saves.

Allshouse said, “The entire team played incredibly well against East Penn. We worked through our funk from the beginning of the week and set the tone for the week ahead.”
