St. James edges Blazers, 2-1

St. James Academy broke a 1-1 tie early in the second half and held off the Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers 2-1 in a non-league boys soccer game Thursday.

The Blazers (6-4) took a 1-0 lead about 15 minutes into the game when Liam Wenger scored on an assist from Landon Kellogg. They had a chance to go up by two goals a short time later but missed on a near-point-blank attempt.

The missed opportunity came back to haunt them late in the first half when a free kick taken by St. James goalkeeper Erich Weber from beyond midfield took a high bounce in the box, sailed over the heads of the Blazer defense and settled into the net.

Kyle Kansiime of St. James broke the tie with what turned out to be the game-winner shortly into the second half.
